Communication Techniques
While viewing the first part, I could tell that the patient was furious, uncomfortable, and in pain. The patient also sounded tired, maybe due to lack of enough sleep the previous night due to the pain she felt, and the nurse on duty did not respond to her complaints. The patient says that she was very uncomfortable, and she needed immediate attention from the nurse. I feel that the nurse is very empathetic; she tries to understand every aspect of the patient that is how uncomfortable the patient is and what medication she can give. Although she is sure no prescription can be given to the patient, she speaks to the patient politely and promises to do something to ease the pain.
The nurse in the second part is very considerate and sounds helpful to the patients. If I were the nurse, I would be very compassionate with the patient because she already suffered enough being in the hospital with harsh treatment from the previous nurse. I would be sympathetic and considerate with the patient and offer the best medical care since she would experience more pain after the procedure. Talking to the patients and seeing that her moods have changed from being angry to be composed would make me feel better. I would feel that I had fulfilled my duty as a nurse since my patient had changed her moods and has started to talk positive things and even thanked me, unlike before, where she had threatened to report to the supervisor. Leaving the room and the patient was willing to rest without complaints and demanding water and medication would make me feel that effective communication makes things work, and harsh talks only worsen the situations.
