Community nurses work with the community and population as equal partners and focus on primary prevention and health promotion. They work in various sectors in the community, including community health centres, home health agencies, school and worksite health programs, and local health departments (North Eastern State University, 2017). As such, they have various responsibilities in the community, the primary one being providing treatment to the sick in the community. They also offer guidance and advice on practices that advance healthy living, for example, what composes a proper diet and the need for exercise. Moreover, the nurses organize and hold health promotion programs where they educate the community on different diseases, their prevention, management and cure.
Community resources refer to anything that can be used to improve the quality of life in the community, including people, structures, services such as transport and businesses. Assessing the existence and condition of such resources is essential as it enhances the full understanding of the community, including its strong and weak aspects. Also, the information gotten is used in coming up with effective improvement efforts since the community knows which areas need improvement.
Community resources are also necessary as they offer both clinical and non-clinical ways to promote health and well-being. This is because it is easy to identify community aspects that can be used to manage diseases, for example, outdoor and art resources which are used to treat mental illnesses (RHI Hub, 2020). Proper transport services ensure that people can access health facilities and professional easily, and the availability of trained health workers assures the community of quality care whenever they need it.
