Both Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth 1 were empathic in delivering their speeches. Their ability to understand the situations their troops were in made their speeches effective. When Winston Churchill gave his speech namely “we shall fight on the beaches,” he started by narrating the brutality the British troops faced the Nazi attack when. Churchill gave a detailed account of how the British and the French army fought bravely to defend their nation. When delivering his speech, Winston Churchill portrayed empathy for the British and French troops who had fought in terrible conditions to protect Britain. Churchill went ahead to acknowledge the troops who had chattered dangerous waters to rescue their fellow soldiers as well as the air force who backed up the navy as they strived to push back the Nazi army. There was more empathy when Churchill paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and acknowledges their efforts in the war as well. Queen Elizabeth 1 also uses compassion while delivering the Tilbury speech. The Queen for one gave the speech herself instead of sending a delegate and therefore, her physical presence at Tilbury sent an empathic message to the troops. Then, the Queen asked her soldiers to be careful of their safety. The statement implied that the queen was not excluding herself from the war but rather placing her safety in the hands of her troops suggesting that she trusted them. The Queen said that she would live and die amongst them and lay down for God, her kingdom and her people even in the dust; the message implied that she knew that is what the conditions the soldiers fought in, but they were still loyal to her, and as such, she too would be loyal to them. The only refuge the British and French army had was the beach sand which was seemed helpless in the fierce war. However, the troops fought until they pushed back the enemy. Towards the end of his speech, Winston Churchill used motivational and inspirational words to encourage the forces to continue defending England. He asked them to stand with each other in the harsh and dangerous journey. He said that the Britain troops would fight in France, in the seas and oceans, in the air and on the beaches, all with growing confidence and strength. Although the soldiers had faced difficult battles against the Nazi and lost many colleagues in the war, Churchill encouraged them to forge ahead with courage and never surrender no matter how hard the journey seemed. Also, Churchill assured the army that their efforts would never go unrewarded and that they would be rewarded heavily upon their victory and loyalty. Similarly, Queen Elizabeth 1 inspired her troops in Tilbury. In her speech, the Queen tells her soldiers that even though her body was that of a feeble woman, her heart and stomach were that of an England king. The statement implied that the Queen was courageous even when faced with the threat from enemies. As such, the troops too had to be strong like their Queen and face their enemy with courage, just as their queen did. Furthermore, the Queen added that she would take up arms and be their general, judge and reward all their virtues on the battlefield. With such encouraging words from their Queen, that she would participate in the war and reward them, the troops felt encouraged and ready to go into battle.
