Computer Science and IT Certification
Most of the IT positions require one to have a degree in computer science or Information technology. In addition to these bachelor’s degrees, various certifications are also needed for the jobs. The most sought after certifications are, Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Other commonly required certifications by most companies are Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and ITIL v3 Foundation.
Most of the companies are comfortable with hiring employees with a bachelor’s level education with an addition of at least one or two of the above qualifications. Very few companies require their employees to have attained a master’s level of education or above. Experience is a crucial requirement for IT positions in all companies, with most of them requiring the applicants to have gained at least three years of experience in the fields relevant to the job.
The three significant challenges I have in getting these jobs are the lack of the three years of work experience required by most of the companies hiring IT specialists. I plan to overcome this challenge is by taking up attachments so that I can gain the job experience needed in time. The second challenge is the lack of additional certifications required for the jobs, which can only be overcome by studying for at least two of the certifications required. Lastly, standing out from the thousands of job applicants for the same will undoubtedly be a challenge that I will have to address by ensuring I acquire most of the required qualifications before starting my applications for the positions.
