conduct two focus groups and/or sets of interviews for this assignment.
You will need to conduct two focus groups and/or sets of interviews for this assignment. 1) Identify a community-based organization that works with youth and/or families (examples include but are not limited to: Boys & Girls Clubs of America, YMCA – the Y, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the United States of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), National Youth Rights Association). 2) Identify a small group of 3-5 adult family members whose children are experiencing poor learning outcomes. Conduct a focus group interview or (if too challenging logistically) individual interviews with the people whom you identified (family members and the community-based organization) to learn about their perspectives on community-school engagement. What are the characteristics of an effective relationship between schools and communities? What things do schools do that hinder the development of an effective relationship between schools and communities?
