Summary of the Article:
From the article, five days following the Palm Sunday is the Maundy Thursday, also referred to as Holy Thursday or covenant Thursday. Good Friday and Easter Sunday also follow in the Christian calendar. Maundy Thursday helps the Christians commemorate the day in which Jesus had the last supper with his disciples succeeding him being crucified. Besides, it marks the day Jesus shared a piece of bread and wine with his followers as a resemblance to his body and blood. It is similar to what Christians commemorate through the Eucharist or the Holy Communion (Barr, and O’Malley). In Christian life, Holy Thursday is celebrated through giving out food and clothing to the less fortunate. The monarch also washes the worshipper’s feet. For this year, 2020, Christians are celebrating the Maundy Thursday on 9 April and the Easter Sunday the day for which Christian celebrate the Christ resurrection was on 13 April (Barr, and O’Malley). Besides, During Maundy Thursday, there is Maundy money for which it is the custom for the Christian leader to give some cash or sterling silver to the elderly attendees of the Holy Thursday mass to demonstrate sharing as Jesus led by example.
Relating the Article to Class Content:
During the class lectures, we learned on the different days and activities that are vital in the Christian life. Holy Thursday is an example of such days, and having the Eucharist is a ceremonial practice among Christian. Commemorating the day through sharing food and clothes with the needy allows them to follow Jesus’s teachings in which they believe. It also marks the beginning of Jesus suffering to save the man as Christians believe
