construction of Ice Rink & curling Facility
Question One
I had delegated the construction of Ice Rink & curling Facility to my site manager. I thought things were progressing well until I received an email that the remaining cement and steel were inadequate to complete the job. Even though the project followed the architectural plan, there was inefficiency in the use of resources. The constant material purchasing was expensive and time-consuming. I would have done the job differently to avoid the continual purchase of material halfway by preparing an accurate monthly job cost update and have full knowledge of the sub-contracts to ensure proper coordination. Also, I would supervise and monitor all purchasing to eliminate wastage and create efficiency in the use of material.
Question Two
I would employ a job Enlargement design concept because it will successfully help to solve the problem of the labor shortage. I would implement it by accessing the repetitive tasks in the company and adding them to particular people who have the capabilities to handle different jobs that require similar skills. I will be careful to ensure my employees are not overworked hence reducing the efficiency. The Enlargement job design will increase the staff’s interest in work and propel productivity.
Also, I will adopt a fix work schedule concept. I would install biometric staff login systems to ensure I monitor workers’ working history and enhance productivity. I would be careful to avoid employee exhaustion and provide them breaks within the fixed times. I hope the scheduling concept would promote dedication and eliminate time-wasting to help the organization achieve its construction deadlines
Question Three
The construction industry is transforming from the old-fashioned ways of construction and is currently experiencing more Technological Integration. Many construction companies rely more on the use of machines to do construction jobs. For instance, the use of drones to place construction parts where they are required, and the employment of 3D printers to produce parts that fit perfectly. However, the change is not being handled well because it is increasing, leading to joblessness.
I would suggest that the technology integration process also to establish measures that enable staff training in the use of the machines and computer software to reduce the job insecurity and resistance to change.
