Contested West.

The point of argument in this contest is that the Chinese people were feeling that they were going through suffering and hard times after migration and settlement at the end of the civil war. Anti-Chinese sentiments that lived in California pushed for the appeal to congress of their grievances (Eide, 2013). Pun Chi pushed for a statement for the claims and was drafted in the Chinese language. This statement was later translated by William spear, which was a missionary. These grievances in the petition disclosed views of many Chinese people on why and why they were being persecuted.

The government threw open land in California that led to their problems. The people that came in were searching for gold and trade interactions. The shipmasters landed the equality of laws. Their people and the officers were extremely cordial towards them. The right relationship and their good ties that were seen in the past were forgotten. The people around them viewed the Chinese people as thieves and enemies. Administration of justice and their harmony was not received, and their legal collection of licenses were injured and plundered. Pun Chi considered perpetual vexation because of the following reasons. The people who were digging gold were the poor, their clothing was inadequate, and they always grieve and eat little (Da, 2014). Boatmen also extorted heavily on the fares, and Chinese people on their way were being pushed, kicked, and trucked on by the drunkards. All these injustices were done to them because they spoke the Chinese language. Pun Chi considered these treatments rebellion against heaven because heaven produces holy men. A country like that cannot mistreat and humiliate people. He feels that Chinese people are the people that God loved the most and that an honorably country should not hate on them. They were supposed to be loving and accommodating. Pun Chi said that the degradation goes beneath the Negros and the Indians because those who murdered the Chinese were not tried in court, and even murderers were let to go free. Pun Chu’s legal and political reforms were realistic because it fought for the rights of the Chinese people. They were undergoing sufferings that they did not deserve in the honorable country.

The crux of this document is how Pun Chu narrates the injustices they are going through. It is inhuman for a country to mistreat other people in such a manner.
