Counterfactual tools
The tool chosen is counterfactual, and its corresponding element is the props and makes belief. The counterfactual is an excellent tool for analyzing how events might have taken place. It is also suitable for speculation purposes as some of the events might have a different turn out if they did occur or followed the due course. Given the example of Osama Bin Laden and Gaddafi were alive, some aspects of the society they were in could be different. If Gaddafi was alive, then Libya as a country could not be at war nor grumbling in shambles. Likewise, the element of prop and make-believe is used to put into life some of the fantasy that an artist has in mind. Take, for instance, the existence of a half-man, half-horse, or the unicorn; this can only be made possible by the use of props and make-belief. When these two are combined, then it became a unique concept. The newly formed concepts are summed as counterfactual+ props and make-belief = imaginary plus creativity realization.
Thomas Thwaites, the toaster project, is a unique project that aimed at showing creativity and listening to insights can create a masterpiece. The artists are fond of smelting metals, and through the initiate, he creates a unique project. The project is some of his critics saw his skills and prompted him to create something unique. Using the technique formulated above of counterfactual and props, we can see that he only designed the toaster as a prop for use in one of the science projects. Thus, it brings the counterfactual idea into life as to what is there was no toaster for slices of bread. The existence of toasters has made life easier for those who feel and love crunchy bread. The crunchiness was made possible by the fact that he saw a prop and made a belief that it will become a reality in the long run. Likewise, some people have lauded his attempts to create unique materials and instruments as the genius of his time. The artist made the toaster from raw materials, and thus, he becomes a pioneer of the toaster machine.
By using the new lenses, it can be seen that Thwaites used the counterfactual to create something that people would question until today. Similarly, what was just a prop for a science and electronic fair turned to be a reality when he actualized it. Through the use of various aspects of design, there is the need to realize dreams as long as we have the ideas. Ideas for the future are best served during this season when people have ideas but do not know who to turn to in desperate times. This new lens can be used in the project I have done in order to strengthen the ideas that I have put into actualization and also answer the question of what if it was not built? Likewise, the concept of future prototyping speculative works relates to my work since building a prototype is a step towards achieving a goal.
