Covid-19 Response
Over the last three months, the world has been shocked by the spontaneous increase in the number of Covid-19 cases arising from the Corona Virus. However, the most shocking is the response of the United States towards the calamity (Judd, Zaslav and Diaz par 1). According to MedR, there is a thirty-five per cent continuous increase in the number of covid-19 cases in the US. Compared to this, there are only two thousand three hundred and forty-eight ICU beds (MedR 1). MedR predicts a twenty per cent increase in the need for ICU bed. There are only nine thousand ventilators compared to the needed thirty thousand. Despite this, the government does not seem eager to change these statistics by increasing ventilator production
This situation s frustrating to health caregivers and service providers who understand the importance of the above equipment (Judd, Zaslav and Diaz par 1). Healthcare practitioners are at a crossroad of putting their lives to risk for humanity due to the negligence of the government or leaving work until the necessary equipment are available. Despite this, the service providers in the health sectors such as doctor continue to avail their services to the sick (Knibbs par 7). They hope that Trump’s government will take their request for additional ventilators and equipment seriously.
Lastly, two concepts are becoming prominent with the Covid-19 crisis. Firstly, the need for social distancing and unemployment rates (MedR 12). Most businesses have been closed due to the government directive to curb the spread of covid19. As a result, unemployment has increased to more than thirty per cent. Secondly, the requirement of social distancing is becoming a challenge as everyone finds the need to interact (Judd, Zaslav and Diaz par 5). However, social distancing is necessary for flattening the curve by stopping the spread of the infection
Covid-19 has transformed how we interact with each other. From the hand to hand interaction to Namaste. The mode of communication has also changed. Social gatherings have significantly reduced, and cities are going into lockdown. However, there is a need for an active response by the government to provide ventilators and other essential equipment.
