Criminal Justice-Investigative Plan

The investigative plan provides a plan of action that law enforcement agents will use in case of crime. Various steps will be taken by the security team to identify ways in which security can be beefed up based on the findings.  The first step is to review the police reports that were written when the robbery was reported. Secondly, the witness that law enforcement will be reinterred viewed to identify the gaps that might be available in the report. Thirdly, reviewing forensic evidence that was gathered at the scene will be done. Further, the tactical analysis of the reports will be conducted to identify patterns of the robberies. The data gathered will then be synthesized in a way that patterns are drawn, such as time of entry, items stolen, street name, among others.  These findings will then be submitted to the police officers whom they can add to their reports.  Using the analyzed results, the security team will lease with police officers to help them with crime mapping resources that will help in pinning the criminal.  Additionally, the security team will collect data from the police on areas which have more robbery and identify the causative factors. The security team then uses this information and conducts a review of the literature of previously conducted research to come up with a more concussive report. Lastly, the security team will provide recommendations on how the city can beef its security using information from the investigation.

Technological Assistance Needed

The use of technology allows for the timely registration of information about the participants entering a building. For surveillance of the building, CCTV Camera will be needed in the process. This is because the buildings in the city have cameras at the entrance. They can work in offices, corridors, corners, or directly above the door to monitor people entering a building (Mayhew, 2012).  The CCTVs will be in such a way that they record live footage that can be in real-time in case the company notices a breach of security in the building.  In addition, this can be coupled with the use of traffic cameras, which are installed along the roads in the city.  As such, in case of crime occurs, they are able to record the incidence. During the investigation, there is a need to have reports of crimes that have previously happened in the area. The consultant can use the computers at the police office to retrieve the reports that were taken on previous crimes. Crime mapping tools will be used in the synthesis of crime information.

Measures to Analyze Robbery Activity

This entails working with police officers to provide all the reports of all the reported cases of robbery in the area. The data collected can then be collated into crime types, the month it occurred, the target, and the tine crime is conducted. These patterns can be identified through statistical analysis to identify emerging trends in the area (Stenton, 2009). This is also to find if there are relationships between criminal events that have occurred in an area.   The analyst will also engage in data modification where they will identify the inaccuracies in the data available in the analysis stage and go back to the raw data collected to identify areas that the gaps may come from.

Synthesizing the Data

This involves looking for a trend in the investigation collected from the different crime scenes.  This also involves providing inferences about the personality of the offender based on the information they have gathered from the witnesses.  In addition, they will conduct interviews on the suspects of the various crimes and evaluating the forensic evidence that has been collected.  This involves looking at the footage from the traffic cameras and ensuring that details about crime are recorded. Synthesis of the data will thus entail organizing the data to make sense of it (Holly, 2015). This can be done using computer software to identify the themes, which include the time the robbery was conducted, the street where it occurred and the type of robbery. This analysis will help show which streets are most affected, and this may be further explained by evaluating the area and identifying the causative factors.  This information will help law enforcement officers as they will know which areas require more security personnel deployed in the area.

Investigative Units

The investigation plan needs the collaboration of different investigation units so that it can run as scheduled. The consultant will work with law enforcement officers in the city as they are responders in case of a robbery and provide the first-hand information.  In addition, they will work with detectives and criminal analysts as they have provided a synthesis on the crimes conducted. In addition, forensic evidence specialists will be included due to their expertise in collecting evidence.

Supplies Equipment and Funding

The investigative plan also needs different equipment so that it can be actualized and provide solutions for the problem at hand.  This will include the use of computers and criminal investigation software, which will be used for the analysis and synthesis of criminal data.   A video player installed on the computer will be needed to aid in the review of video footage from traffic cameras.  The criminal analyst will use Criminal Geographic Targeting (CGT), whose role is to evaluate the special behavior of an offender (Adderley & Musgrove, 2001).  Notable, the city has not been able to apprehend criminals for the robberies across the city.  However, based on the patterns and information they gather on the crime scene, they can identify sociological information about the offender.  In addition, the officers will need new patrol cars, which will improve surveillance of the area and ensure they cover more ground. This will mean that the project will be expensive to run, given the equipment needs in the investigative plan.  The project will tap into the grants that the department of justice provides.  This project meets the criteria of the grant’s requirement, given that it aims to provide public safety. In addition, the department can work with private entities and build private-public partnerships. The department can leverage the corporate responsibility funds that companies have and write proposals to ask them to provide support for the program.

Conclusion

Crime analysis relies on the availability of crime data and which is accurate and timely. The investigation plan provides a guideline of how city X will respond to the rise in a number of robberies.  The plan will tap into the existing potential in the law enforcement officers of the city as well as additional technological assistance, which will make the process run smoothly. The investigation units bring in their respective expertise showing the need to have collaborated within the department to get desirable results.
