Lafayette is a city located in the southern part of Louisiana. The city is the fourth largest in the state. Lafayette is at the heart of Cajun and Creole country; an area considered the happiest part in America because of the numerous festivals held annually. The city of Lafayette is best known for the rich culture which is marked by various international festivals. What stands out in the Lafayette festivals is the distinctive blend of festivals, music, food and culture from the diverse Hispanic communities. This exploratory paper is going to discuss the various cultural festivals held in Lafayette as well as what each represents.

Festival International de Louisiane

The Festival International de Louisiane is a unique festival held in Lafayette in April. Historically, the festival was meant to unite the Lafayette community by celebrating all the cultures through performing arts (Katie). Since Lafayette harbors many ethnicities, the festival was meant to bring the people together to appreciate and share their different cultures.

Latino immigrants who migrate to Lafayette have a hard time in adjusting to the various cultures; as such, a non-profit organization namely The Asociación Latino Cultural-Acadiana (ACLA) got formed to aid the immigrants in settling down easily (Espinonza). The ACLA organization through its website provides practical information to Latino immigrants. Besides, the organization also holds a massive festival that features the Latino culture.

The Latin Music festival features music, food, and crafts from local groups residing in Lafayette. The primary purpose of the festival is to showcase the Latino culture to the other local groups as well as compare it with different cultures. The festival gets marked by live performances, Latino cuisine, arts and crafts exhibitions that showcase paintings and jewelry of local communities. The festival gives the local dwellers as well as international tourists a chance to get an immersive experience of the Latin culture. Mardi Grass festival

The three-day festival held in May gets attended by thousands of people from all over the world.
