40 pts (revision required for a score of less than 28) Due: Tuesday 2/11 at 5pm, via Bb link (Learning Unit – Week 4) Format: Times New Roman or Calibri, 12 pt., double-spaced, Word .doc (.pages is not compatible, .pdf is ok), minimum 500 word discussion Select an issue impacting MCC students [NOT related to student debt] The issue should be one that directly impacts their education. Describe the issue – what makes this an ‘issue’? Discuss which research method would be most effective to explore this issue. While it is important to consider pros and cons, your explanation should show why this is the best approach to exploring your selected topic. For example, the fact that surveys are quick is not an appropriate response. Select TWO of the primary perspectives and discuss the using these perspectives.[unique_solution] Functionalism Symbolic Interactionism Conflict OR Feminist (not both) The paper should be academic in nature, so first person is to be avoided. This is not a journal, a rant, or a chat with a friend, so slang is also not appropriate. College-level writing and critical thinking is expected. While I cannot edit papers, I can offer some input on outlines during office hours (bring a hard copy of your outline). Technical issues are no excuse for late work. Assignments submitted via email will not be opened or graded. Grading: The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of key concepts we’ve discussed so far. Papers will be reviewed with the following in mind: Correct understanding of course material Sociological terms and concepts used correctly and effectively. Interesting thinking The discussion creatively explores the topic in ways that informs and intrigues the reader. Clarity Concepts are thoughtfully presented and well-organized. Ideas are fully explained, using clear and concise sentences, utilizing transitions that aid understanding. Mechanics Meets college-level writing expectations. Overall Considers strengths and weaknesses of each paper. Provides a holistic evaluation of the submission. Does the submission demonstrate and understanding of the material? Is the paper a college-level submission? Scores: Excellent – substantially exceeds requirements (40-36) Satisfactory – meets requirements (37-28) Unsatisfactory – does not meet requirements, revise (0)
