Cyrano de Bergerac/Roxane Compare and Contrast Essay
Cyrano and Roxane are funny characters and very entertaining to watch. However, after watching Roxane and Cyrano de Bergerac, and after reading through Cyrano, there are a majority of differences and similarities between these films. A lot of similarities exist in these movies. A crucial similarity is seen where Cyrano makes use of the same initials in the film, that is, C.D.B and Roxane, he uses C.D Bells. Cyrano’s love-based Roxane makes use of the same name Cyrano de Bergerac and Roxane. However, Cyrano effectively writes all Christian letters in the films so that Christian can grant them to Roxane since he admires her a lot. Cyrano speaks under the balcony of Roxane in both films, whereby he tries to convince Roxane about his love super.
Cyrano speaks from Christians’ point of view to make it seem like Christian is addressing Roxane. He attempts to win over Roxane for Christian. Cyrano protects and assists Christian in the two films. Roxane mainly falls in love with Christian because he is attractive (Reich 34). Cyrano defends and protects Christian through wars and assists him during a date with Roxane.
Moreover, there are also differences in the films; even, between Cyrano and Roxane. One difference is that these movies don’t have the same language, whereby Roxane uses English while Cyrano makes use of French. The videos don’t possess the same names, e.g., Andy is Ligniere, Charlie is Cyrano, and Chris is Christian. Cyrano occupies various positions in these movies. Focusing on Roxane, Cyrano is a firefighter, while in Cyrano de Bergerac, he portrays himself as a soldier.
The mentioned above differences and similarities are among the many comparisons in the two movies. Watching Roxane was more interesting because it was set in an English version. I got a better understanding of what was entailed in the play. However, the movie is funnier and entertaining with the presence of Steve Martins in this particular movie.
