Dangers of Being Judgmental

In the understanding of the social practices in society, individuals excessively engage their emotional influences that actively affect their operations. For instance, psychological factors such as joy, anger, and being judgmental control the social practices and the generation of the ideas that dictate their daily practice. However, humans have developed the trait of jumping into conclusions very fast after the evaluation of an occasion or the subject’s behaviors. The generation of the findings over an individual would purposely result in the understanding of the individual in different traits that either gives a positive or negative perspective of how to handle the situations (Zavaliy, 2017). Therefore, this paper provides the evaluation of the dangers of being judgmental on specific actions of the members in the society.

In real-life experience, I have been a victim of judging and being judged by others. I have been judgemental, particularly in the political aspect. The experience of being judged by others is significantly witnessed in the political field across the globe. In every democratic nation, a leader or various contestants occasionally show their interests in participating to lead multiple political positions in the country. Therefore, the concepts of judging others are attained where the voters must evaluate the possible achievements of the most favorable candidate. On several occasions, the politicians are judged according to their previous successes in their respective places of work, how they coordinate their families, and also how they organize and run their business operations. In case the interested candidate has ever served in the government, their government records are attained to review how they performed in their respective offices and how they purposely worked to achieve the acceptable practices that would make them the favorite candidate for the position. Therefore, the concept of judging politicians after evaluating their previous performances and experiences indicates some of the exciting factors necessarily used to judge and decide on the most impressive candidate for the position, an action that would result in a negative outcome that is regrettable. .

The fusion of judgments in our lives leaves little or no room for others to share their experience.  For instance, during the election period, some citizens reject some politicians based on the money factor without necessarily evaluating their interests in serving them. In the end, they end up voting in wrong politicians with irrelevant ambitions. Personality attributions are useful in dictating some of the essential elements that make the members of the society quick in judging others. They are simply the aspects of an individual’s character that are effective in dictating the outcome of his or her performances over an issue. Most people get disillusioned in the end after realizing of that they made wrong attributions on particular subjects. They judge others, depending on the personalities displayed(O’Connor, 2016). Personal attributions may give a wrong impression about a person sometimes. For instance, a member of the society who rarely associates with others maybe be regarded as being unkind or uncooperative, which is the opposite of what the individual is. Thus here, personality attributions end up giving a wrong character definition. However, the purpose of personality attributions is more long-lasting and enduring (Zavaliy, 2017). Therefore, judging individuals in society depending on their personality attributions might give a negative impression that may even result in one being isolated from other people as other individuals would fear to associate with them.

Evaluation of various texts and research contents gives a different impression of the understanding of the dangers of judging others in society. For instance,  the book, “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorn, presents the idea of judging others as the greatest sin an individual commit. The concept of judging others is identified at the moment the members of the society criticize one another or the affected nurture. The idea of judgment is therefore displayed as a recurring theme in the text, a concept that also presents the process of judging others as a dangerous act that would result in harmful practices (Hawthorne, 2012). To put the argument in context, there is an occasion where the protagonist, Young Goodman Brown, is judged on returning to his demonic mission of consorting the devil and judge the fellow men. From the influence of the devil, Goodman realized that men are evil. He ends up judging the members of society as being very harmful. He even judges his competitor Aylmer of committing  a sin by deciding differently. Therefore, the concept of judging others is considered dangerous as it results in adverse relationship outcomes that hinder the individual’s performances in society and how they relate and treat one another.

The book, “A Good man is hard to find” by O’Connor, brings forth another level of judgmental influence. In the book, the author presents the idea of the phrase “Goodman. ” Putting this in context, according to the grandmother, the label ”good” does not imply being moral or being kind. According to her, a man is a ” good man” if his values align with her values. She regards Red Sammy as being ” good” because of blindly trusting other people and also for waxing nostalgic moments of innocent times. She also considers Misfit ” good” because she reasons that Misfit will not shoot a lady- the kind of refusal that is in line with her moral code. So generally in this book, O’ Connor reveals that the suggested right person in the society cannot be met easily. The author expounds on the idea of a man being good to another only if what he or she engages in concurs with the value of the person despite concentrating on the moral of the person (O’Cornnor, 2016).

In conclusion, judging people in society results in adverse effects that hinder the beautiful co-existence of humans. It is wrong to judge people just by basing our judgments on their personality attributions, their different opinions as compared to ours, their code of conduct and mode of operation, their social life and living standards as there is not a single human being who is righteous. No  human being is an island. Therefore, we should learn to take some quality time to learn about others and hear them out before placing any argument on them.
