Businesses are becoming competitive in recent times. For any business to remain on the toss, it must have an innovative idea or understand the current market strategies. In that spirit, the concept of knowledge management is being used widely today. Knowledge management is the process of identifying, analyzing and distributing knowledge in institutions. Knowledge is possessed by the members of the organization. Hence, the organization should have a model of ensuring that knowledge is passed from one person to another in the organization (Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta, 2016).

Three terms have become popular in the field of knowledge management. These words are data, information and knowledge. Many people use the three times interchangeably despite them being different (Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta, 2016). This paper will differential the two terms and discuss what comes after knowledge in the continuum of knowledge management.

Data

Data is gathered from unstructured certainties and subtleties. Data is as characters, images, numbers, figures, content or necessarily drawn or jotted figures with no specific arrangement. Data expect to handle to make its utilization as information. “Data” is gotten from the Latin word “datum” whose importance is “to give something”. The data term is generally utilized research purposes in associations like government offices, instructive organizations, government, and private research establishments. There are necessarily two sorts of data. They are primary and secondary data. Data gives raw information such as the last 100 years, several visitors in a country and the weight of a person (Bellinger, Castro, & Mills, 2004). The information contained in data does not have any valuable meaning unless processed.

Information

Information is a sort of data which is prepared, organized, composed and has particular importance. Information is displayed for a specific organization. It is a reasonable type of data and is more substantial than data. Data must be utilized in research about merely after it is prepared and changed over into information. The word information has French origin, and its significance is “demonstration of educating” (Bellinger, Castro, & Mills, 2004). Data is cleaned, refined and go through different procedures to change over into information. The prepared information is introduced in the type of tables, outline, and so forth; hence, it is straightforward and valuable for an assortment of purposes. For example, the population of a country can be analyzed in the form of age groups, sex and religion (Bellinger, Castro, & Mills, 2004). The groups can then be made in the form of tables. Such data is straight forward and has valuable information. Hence, it is regarded as information.

Knowledge

Human mind intentionally composed the information and assess it to create knowledge. As such, the capacity of the individual reviews or uses his information and experience is known as knowledge. For instance, “386” is data, “your marks are 386” is data, and “It is a consequence of your hard work” is the knowledge.

According to Pearlson, Saunders, & Galletta (2016), the three elements (data, information and knowledge) have a particular arrangement. They follow each other from data to information and then knowledge. The method shows the sequential of the items in terms of complexity and importance. Data is vague, while information makes meaning out of the data. Knowledge additionally explains the information generated. In my view, wisdom follows knowledge. Intelligence is defined as the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise. Hence a wise person is knowledgeable but has great a lot of wisdom about something, someone or in a particular field.

In summation, the possibility of knowledge and knowledge executives is being used by numerous organizations today with the point of having the upper hand. Three regular terms utilized in the knowledge executives are information, data and knowledge. The three are exchanged; however, they are extraordinary. In continuum idea, they pursue each other structurally from data to information to knowledge. After knowledge, the other aspect that follows is wisdom.
