Dealing with Unexpected Change

Question 1

It’s been long since there was a break out of a global pandemic. The last break out was Ebola which was appropriately managed. The recent change that I have had to live and deal with it is the break out of COVID-19 disease. The disease has crippled a large part of the world and boiled down to affecting both the employed and the unemployed people. Personally, the break out of this disease has interfered with my school schedule. Right now, I have to take online classes while also spending most of my time in the house, thinking whether my family back at home are safe.

Question 2

The virus has changed the way I have been doing things. It’s now a month since I have faced the unexpected change. I cannot be in a position to hang out with my friends or visit social places as frequent as I used to. The virus has made me become paranoid thinking that I could get it anytime. Being alone and every moment in my own house a lot of things go through my mind.

Question 3

As an international student, I have parents back in my country who also wonder if I am safe and want to know each and everything that I am doing every moment. It does not only put them in a problematic situation but makes me also to become stressed. However, I have been overcoming my stresses through three coping skills that I employ. They include exercising, listening to my favourite music and drawing. Doing these activities makes my mind engaged. Over the past few weeks, I had seen my stresses reduce compared to when the virus broke out. I have learned to stay in my house most of the time. Through exercising, I have improved my mental health through the releasing of stress. I make sure that I occupy my mind to prevent me from getting into deep thoughts about the virus.

Question 4

In most cases, change has the power of separating people from their own social life. To prepare for such abrupt changes, I learn to stay alone and involve myself in activities that do not need a social life. The other thing to learn is hoping for a better tomorrow even when everything seems to fall apart. Having a positive attitude while experienced with a change can make one calm and relieved rather than getting into a trauma.

Question 5

I have found the assignment to be useful in different ways. Firstly it has allowed me to share the most stressful experience of change that I have come across. It has been said that a problem once shared is half solved. Sharing my experience of change makes me feel relaxed and relieved. Secondly, it has also given me a chance to rethink about an unexpected change in the future. Through it am now adapting my body and social life to be in a position to adapt to any unforeseen change that can come up in the future. Lastly, it has given me a chance to rediscover my talent and put efforts on. I used to draw until life got busy. Now I have embarked on drawing, which has been evident on the potential that I have. I know as I go by adapting to change. I will discover more things and abilities that I did not know before.
