Decision-making
Decision-making formed a crucial part of planning and creation phases. For this reason, conflicts were bound to occur. In anticipation of such disputes, Ahmed was charged with the task of conflict arbitration. Firstly, there was an issue concerning which board game we will create. Most of the members felt that the top priority was to design an exciting game. However, the games that seemed highly interesting were difficult to develop and required a substantial amount of time. Therefore, others wanted the group to focus on an easier game.
Charged with the responsibility of resolving disputes, Ahmed played a pivotal role in helping the members reach an agreement. Ahmed addressed the issue by outlining the priorities of the group rather than those of individuals. However, this problem required the intervention of Aleeyah, who was responsible for decision-making procedures. Aleeyah offered substantial assistance in addressing the conflict, particularly in arriving at the most appropriate decision. Undoubtedly, all members agreed that time was the most important factor. As such, the team decided to create Chat Your Way Home, which was more manageable.
Another conflict was observed in the division of roles. Some members felt that they were assigned duties that were not significant. Others complained that they did not have the essential skills to perform the assigned duties adequately. Notably, this led to a conflict in which we spent a considerable time resolving. As a way of solving the issue, each member mentioned the roles they would want and the skills they possessed. Later, a leader was required to divide the responsibilities based on the provided information. To ensure another conflict would not emerge, every member promised to stick with the assigned duties. Additionally, the members were required to assist each other. The fundamental advantage of this approach is that it helped members acquire the necessary skills in all areas.
Undeniably, there were several occasions where emotional conflicts were observed. It emerged when members held opposing viewpoints. Although the issue was ignored in its first occurrence, it was sufficiently addressed when it persisted. Particularly, this was about the varying ways members used to accomplish a common goal. Each member felt that their method was the best. While each approach would ultimately lead to the attainment of the intended objectives, it was crucial to identify the most efficient technique. Markedly, this is where the issues emerged. Primarily, Ahmed critically addressed the importance of avoiding the influence of emotions on decision-making. Members were advised to maintain open-mindedness, which every member strongly agreed. Like in other conflicts, Ahmed managed to resolve the issue, and it never recurred. Overall, the team remained productive until the completion of the project.
