  1. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, I feel I am currently at the self-actualization needs, which describes the needs I require to reach my full potential. I always have the feeling that someday I would hold an executive position in an organization. However, to achieve this need, the manager needs to provide challenging work to me, which would prepare me for the executive posts in the future. In addition, I feel that the manager should invite other employees and me in the company to participate in decision making and give us flexibility and autonomy in our jobs.
  2. Self-managed teams in the classrooms have higher ownership in terms of the class projects they perform. Through knowledge sharing, team members can learn from one another, which enhances their team spirit. As much as self-managed teams having productivity in the classroom, they also come with several disadvantages the major one being decision-making. In most cases, you find different team members have different ideas to a problem, and as a result, they would take a long time in arriving at a common decision.

  3. I have been on various groups over the years and have witnessed different ways in which leaders motivate their teams. In a sports group that I was, the captain always motivates the team to feel free and have fun while they were playing. Although he always encouraged teamwork as he believed that a competitive team is always the one that works together. In short, the captain utilized theory Y as he believed the team should always come together in decision making. In another workgroup that I was, the manager used bonuses to help motivate the employees to work hard.
  4. I believe pay can be a motivating factor, and I believe if I were paid to work harder in schools, I would have worked harder. In my working experience, I have worked harder to get recognition from the manager. In return, I believed I would get a promotion or a raise or both. So I’m afraid I have to disagree with Herzberg effects of pay.
