In particular, The silent patient by Michaelides (2019) has been variously reviewed. Kirkus (2018) offers a critical analysis of the book, highlighting both the strengths and limitations of the literary piece. Regarding the weaknesses of the book, Kirkus (2018) opines that it is clumsy, contrived, and silly. However, Kirkus (2018) suggests that the passages of the diary reveal the greatness of the book.
On the other hand, Crime by the Book (2019) seems to favor the book in its review. Much of the evaluation praises the author, describing his writing as immersive and hypnotic (Crime by the Book, 2019). Both analysis pitches at readers. Notably, the first review was sourced from a magazine while the second was obtained from a social media avenue, in the form of a blog. . Gifts to libraries are essential since they help in preserving historical events. However, gifts, which are not genuine, are erroneous. As a head of collections of an academic library, presented with a gift, my first action is to evaluate its authenticity. The question that will go through my mind is, how best can I treat this gift to ensure that I only preserve relevant collection? As such, while I appreciate the award, I will treat it with caution until I determine that it is genuine. Besides, I will acknowledge the donation only if it passes the test of authenticating a collection material. In this line, I will evaluate the content of the gift against known facts of the case. For instance, I will analyze the date of the death warrant against the trial dates of the case. The gift indicates that the death warrant of Martha Carey was on June 10, 1692 (Salem witch document death warrant, n.d.). I will also examine the legitimacy of the signatures in the gift. In addition, the support for keeping gift books is informed by their contribution to scholarly teaching and research (Princeton University Library, n.d.). As such, I would want to keep a book because it provides valuable information. Unwanted books can be donated or discarded.
