Having boogers for human beings feels awful, but do dogs have boogers? Dogs as well have these boogers. But how do you tell what these boogers mean? How to take care of them, among other things. Do dogs have boogers? Well, yes, of course, they do. How draining would it be for them? A runny nose in dogs shows a symptom, not a diagnosis like in human beings. The various reasons as to why people get boogers is different from why dogs get boogers. For human beings, getting boogers is an indication of common Flue. How do you tell if your dog has boogers?

Story of my life. It took me a very long time before I could notice that my dog has had boogers for a very long time without my notice. This is because of their tendency to lick it away. I was often caught off-guard by its sickness, not knowing what was wrong with it until I took it to the vet to get diagnosed and voila! I got the root of the problem. I was able to look out for the various signs and symptoms it has. These are excessive nose licking, a clear, purulent, a bloody discharge from the nose, sneezing frequently, lack of appetite, and stained fur on the forearms. These are the various symptoms you can look out for to tell if your dog has boogers.

  • Allergies
  • Nasal mites
  • Foreign bodies, for example, having things like grass stuck up in the very common nose
  • Cancer is rare to find.
  • This is an established bacterial infection in the nose.
  • A head cold
  • A fungal infection

How do you get a diagnosis of this problem?

Getting a diagnosis of these problems can be very tricky. You may be required to undergo various tests. These tests include the ones below.

Imaging

This involves radiographs and MRI scans. They can bring out the inside scans or pictures of the inside of the nose or eyes.

Endoscopy

Here, an optic camera is passed inside the nose up into the nasal cavity. This camera will give a clear view of what is inside the nasal cavity.

Flush

This is done to wash out cells in the nasal cavity. These cells are taken for analysis to determine what could be the problem with the dog.

What kind of treatment does your dog need if it has boogers?

Boogers, in most cases, is as a result of a lack of vaccinations. A trip to the vet can easily remedy this. Many diseases can be symptom per discharge. As I had stated earlier, boogers for people is different for dogs. Boogers, for example, can be a good symptom for distemper that can easily be controlled by vaccines for your dog. This, therefore, is the first step to secure your dog from diseases. Always ensure that you are up to date with these vaccinations. If vaccination does not work, then the vet will advise you on the kind of treatment to go for. The reason behind the discharge will determine the kind of treatment the dog will get. It the issue is not that big at all, simple antibiotics will do. If the disease is more severe, a more rigorous treatment plan will be used. However small the boogers are, they are an issue for concern and close observation. By doing this, you will be giving the dog an excellent chance to lead a healthy life. Do you still need an answer to do dogs have boogers? I guess not.

Most people think that it is only the nose that gets boogers. Well, I’m afraid that’s not right because even the eyes get boogers. But the question would always remain. How can I help my dog with eye boogers? Before even getting into this, it is good to note some of the things that bring about eye boogers. This can be caused by having long hairs around the eyes, dust, cleaning agents, among other things. Anything that can irritate the dog’s eyes can cause boogers to the dog. How then can you protect or treat eye boogers?

The first thing you should do if you notice that the dog has eye boogers is you should trim the hair growing around the eyes. This is the hair that might be irritating the dog’s eyes. Also, refrain from using soap or shampoo that may irritate the dog’s eyes. Also, ensure that the dog is not around any dust that may get into the eyes. This also means that you should look out for the place where the dog sleeps. Ensure that it is dust-free and that there is nothing that will affect the dog’s eyes. When wiping these boogers off the dog’s eyes, you can use special dog wipes which you can get at pet stores. If you do not have this, you can use non-fragranced baby wipes to wipe off the tears. After you have a visit or walk on dusty areas, ensure that you take your time to wipe off the dust of the dog’s eyes. The final thing would be to be always on the lookout for everything that might irritate your dog. Caution is still the first way to safety.

Do dogs have boogers? This is a question that should not bother you any more since I have given an insight into the various things that bring about boogers and what you should do to protect your dog from these.
