Donald Trump excellent job during the 2016 election of creating advertisements

Donald Trump did an excellent job during the 2016 election of creating advertisements. Trump was in a heated contest against Hillary Clinton for the presidency. To win, Trump had to convince Americans that he was the best candidate. He does so with this ad. This ad was particularly useful because he uses multiple appeals to draw in viewers. During this ad, Trump plays himself off as an anti-establishment, anti corrupt candidate who is the only person capable of fixing things. This worked because a lot of people don’t trust establishment politicians. They are seen as people that can be bribed very easily. He also appeals to emotion. When Trump talks about the past, he does so for a reason. He is building nostalgia about the good old days when our country was the best. His slogan is even Make America Great Again. The logic that he uses in this ad is also very sound. He claims that he is the only candidate who can fix the real problems in the country. He claims that his opponent will only make our country worse because she is from the same party that he claims caused these problems. This is very effective because when you give people an easy solution, then it becomes easy to vote for you.

This ad is filled to the brim with persuasion techniques, and his first success was by releasing the ad when he did. The timing was excellent. He dropped it right in the heat of the election. If he dropped it too early, then people wouldn’t care. If he dropped it too late, then it wouldn’t have mattered because people would already have made up their minds who they wanted to vote for. This is not the only technique he used, though, and this is not the main reason this ad succeeded. Another persuasion technique he used is Cause vs Correlation. He used this by suggesting Hillary Clinton is the problem with our country. Since Hillary was a senator before Trump was elected, and the previous administration hurt our country, then that must mean that Hillary is the problem right? I guess we will never know for sure. But the one part of the commercial that is most compelling is the end. In the end, he uses group dynamics.

He shows all of his supporters cheering for him. This creates a kind of bandwagon effect because if they all support him, then I should too. Potential voters also got to see trumps face during this part. It is a lot easier to vote for someone when you know what they look like.

Along with all of the persuasion techniques in this ad, some significant visual elements help give this message meaning. For example, music. The music is one of the driving factors behind the success of this ad. It is an inspirational music, and you will notice that it gets louder when Trump or his supporters get on stage. This is an attempt to grab the viewer by making Trump and his supporters feel more powerful. You may also notice the filter that is being used in this ad. It perfectly matches the tone that Trump is trying to create. When he talks about his candidate and all of America’s problems, the filter is darker. However, when Trump is in the shot, the screen gets lighter. Couple this with the music, and it creates a cool effect.

This advertisement was very effective in its delivery, and it is a great ad. Your political stances could lead you to be biased. However, I am trying to avoid the political points in this ad and talk about whether this ad is valid or not. Yet whether I like him or not, I believe that this ad was very effective. The criteria in which I am basing this ad might be a little different because it is a political ad, but this ad meets the requirements I have placed to determine whether it is good or not.

The first criteria that I think this ad meets are in its range. A good ad must be able to reach out to the most people. This advertisement reaches out to most people because it identifies something that most people can support. Corruption is a topic that most Americans can agree is a problem and a bad thing. 7 out of 10 people in the US think that the government is failing to fight corruption. Most people would also say that the government would be better if it didn’t have corruption. Some people might say that more things can appeal to more people than corruption can. However, unlike other things, corruption is something that you can disagree with regardless of what your political preferences are.

Another criteria that a commercial has to meet to be effective is to have a clear point. If people are trying the find out what the ad is talking about, then they are more likely to not care about what is being said. However, if a commercial is clear and to the point, then it can draw people in because they know exactly what is going on. This ad meets that criteria because it is straightforward and easy to understand. Trump repeatedly says things to drive it into your head. You only need to see the first 15 seconds to know that they want you to vote for Trump. This is, of course, assuming that the people watching this are American, if you aren’t from America, you might not know what is going on or who Trump is. However, we can safely say that the audience is American because this ad was exclusively played in America

The final criteria that determine whether this ad was effective or not is how moving is the commercial. There could be commercials that meet my first two criteria but still be a bad commercial. This is because those commercials aren’t moving and motivating. This commercial is for many of the reasons that I explained earlier. It appeals to all Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Visual elements are also nicely tied into it. People don’t like when a commercial is too forced or too laid back. This commercial is right in the balance. An argument could be made for this commercial being ineffective. People might say that better ads are out there. But in the end, Trump did end up winning the presidency. That means that he ended up moving more people to vote than his opponent. You could also say that this didn’t move people that were already going to vote for the other side. You might be right, and it didn’t move everybody. But it moved enough people to make a difference.

In conclusion, Donald Trump released a very effective advertisement that helped launch him into the presidency. His ad had multiple appeals and lots of persuasion techniques. It also touched on subjects that all people could relate to and have an opinion on. He met all of the criteria that determine whether a commercial is a good one or whether it is a bad one.
