Drug Addiction and Drug Therapy
The sale of over the counter drugs should be regulated, and a doctor should prescribe them. This will help control the spread and access to these type of drugs since most people have resulted in their abuse. They are sold at chemists freely, and this has led to some people depending on them as drugs. The prescription should also be followed keenly to ensure that people do not become addicted to these drugs. Over the counter, medicines such as Sudafed are considered to be stimulants. Their sale should be regulated since it is clear that people have resulted to using them for the wrong purpose. Sedatives and painkillers should also be described by a physician and stored in a lockbox at home to ensure safe storage.
Development of psychiatric medicines has a long history. Psychiatric patients were treated using different drugs which were used by mental health institutions. Healy suggests that the use of Prozac and SSRI’s medication has led to more cases of suicide. It is recommended that drugs are made to manage risks and not to treat diseases. Clinical trials for drugs have been used by cartels to sell drugs which are addictive to people. He says that there’s no need for performing clinical tests for medicines which are known to cure certain diseases.
The proper role of drug therapies should be to treat addiction and mental health problems. The therapy is meant to help people to overcome issues such as drug addiction and also reverse the psychological problems of patients. The positive effects of the drugs are what delivers quality efficiency in treatment.
