Women have served throughout history in the military in many different roles. Many women have contributed to civil war through spying, nursing, or fighting physically on the battlefield. Both men and women join the military with no idea; hence they undergo the same training, and women would not stand out(Mitchell&Regnery Publishing, 1998). The typical way to discover women was through injury and were punished or sent home.
Women face many struggles in the military. They undergo discrimination in a way that they less powerful than men; hence they are forced to work twice to get halfway far as men. They face discrimination and harassment in and out of the organization; thus, they have a double duty to protect themselves both from outside enemies and male soldiers with torn brains from war who need sexual satisfaction(Carreiras&Kümmel,2008). Friendship is also a big challenge as women who associate with fellow ladies are considered weak soldiers, while the association with male officers regarded as sexual.
The fear of being raped is also very demoralizing as you are unable to do simple things like wearing a belt backwards to give a rapist a hard time. Women also find it very stressful fighting the notion that they do not belong to the military, and the action of one female is assumed to reflect all other females in the military.
Conclusion
Women are an asset to the military, and they should always strive to prove wrong to the notion that women are not capable of the military forces. Women in the military work very hard and sometimes also over show men soldiers who always think they are better than females.
