Education for adults
Response 1
Education for adults elevates the position of the learner. Most learners actively participate in the learning process by undertaking projects. They also bring in new ideas that teachers consider when they make decisions. I believe that adult education should be interesting because it determines the extent to which an individual contributes to socio-economic development. At this point, an adult learner should pursue a discipline that one loves. Adult learners are more engaged with teachers than children learners. They have the perception that what they learn should impact them and members of the society in real-life circumstances. When teachers assess students, they engage in mutual associations. Both parties consider the ideas of others and include their inputs in the decision-making process. Hence, adult learners feel motivated to learn and bring better impacts in their lives.
Response 2
When we look at children education, learners depend a lot on teachers. This is because they cannot make sound decisions about issues that impact their lives. As a result, they take directions from teachers and follow as the content units require. It means that what children education is built on content units and not real-life experiences. Most children do not have the self-directedness that drives them to their interests. They are at the verge of identifying their interests. From the ideas of in the course readings, I realized that children learners do not possess the awareness of specific learning goals and needs that emerge from real-life issues. I believe that teachers of adult learners are more engaged than teachers of children learners. When learners are given towards competency goals, they see the need to get involved in decisions and issues that affect their present and future lives.
