Emotions of children

  1. Evaluate the experience. Was it too brief or too long? Was it too shallow or too deep in its coverage? What were the strengths of the experience?

The puppet show was a fun, engaging, and super active activity through which I was able to gain a lot of insight on how I can use Emotions Puppet Shows to explore the emotions of children. The puppets proved an excellent way to deliver information to the children and help them retain it. Since the children considered the puppet a ‘friend,’ they were able to express their emotions to them without feeling discomfort freely.

Being neither too brief nor too long, we had time to sit and explore these emotions with them and address the reasons behind them. The coverage was in-depth, and it helped me discover that the children had a lot of knowledge. I didn’t think they had. As for the children, it helped them develop some physical and emotional skills as well through using their imagination and language skills for the pretend play. The strengths of the experience were two: not only did the experience benefit the students by helping them learn how to handle their emotions appropriately, but they also help me learn how to run the classroom more effectively.

  1. Evaluate yourself. Were you sufficiently prepared? Did you adequately explain the concepts to the children? Did you take time to listen to the children? Did you give sufficient time for the children to work?

Yes, I was sufficiently prepared for the activity. Being a big fan of imaginative play and the use of puppets to help children explore their emotions, I took the time to listen and explain to them the concept of the activity so that they could understand what to expect to ensure they gained maximally from experience. I showed them the various facial expressions for each emotion then we played the game so that they could memorize them and learn how to show their emotions. They were then given enough time to work on the activity and explore materials as Mrs. Kim kept the activities open for three days. All in all, I believe that with my help, the children were able to find the experience helpful.

  1. Evaluate the participation of the children- were the children able to participate and engage in the lesson? Explain.

The children were able to participate in the activity and even had a puppet show performance for us. From the audience, I was able to capture some of the emotions on their faces on a photo, and through them, one can tell they had so much fun. At one point in the show, the children used two different characters to express how they felt about the scenario, and I was glad to discover that they had learned that it is okay to feel several emotions at once. The experience was of great benefit to them. Not only did it form a new channel for many of them to learn how to communicate their feelings and, at the same time, acquire new language skills, but it also helped encourage the participation of all children into active learning and engagement in the lesson.
