 Environmental Defense Fund

There is an Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) that helps in the conservation of fish while maintaining desirable levels of fishing. Notably, this helps decrease the costs that can get incurred in production, and at the same time, this ensures quality products that help in attracting higher returns in the market.

Catch share is secure, and it shifts the mentality of having to capture more fish to the thoughts of careful fishing that is occasioned by more efficient trips proper delivery of fish and marketing of the same. It encourages safe fishing, and when the conditions are unsafe in the ocean, the fishermen are required to stay on the shores and not in the waters. Mostly, this leads to less gear lost in the sea, and these gears are not suitable for marine life because it can kill fish.

An additional benefit of LAPPs or catch shares is reduced bycatch, which is catching of turtles, dolphins, non-targeted fish, and other marine life caught accidentally. They find themselves dyingand discarded back to the waters. Under catch, shares help fishers improve in their methods and these help in fishing desirable species of fish required by the market.

There is a crowd of challenges that affect the fishing sector, given the catch share. One of the main ones is resource management. Given that fishery is a shared resource, there arises a case where the commodities ineffectively managed. Effective management brings about sustainability—curbed examples of overfishing, hence the realization of favorable fish stocks. Working on resource management can lead to people having to read more from fishing activities and, at the same time, ensuring improved and increasedresources.

The government using the catch shares drives some of the fishers who do not meet the required regulations. The regulations set to ensure proper resource management Catch shares can sometimes be seen as expensive by many anglers because it lacks adequate fishing tools that help in sustaining an appropriate ecosystem of fishing for fish. Catch shares can be disadvantageous for those who have more exceptional fishing capabilities because of an issued order to fish the same amount with those who have fewer skills and smaller equipment. Notably, this can lead to reduced fish getting in the required market leading to undersupply. The marginal social cost is the factors discussed that bring about the setting of quotas that affects the levels of supply.  An arrived socially optimal concentration where there is minimal benefit realized by all the parties. The governments have set specific quotas that are higher by more than 20%to 50%, which are the tunes proposed by scientists. It is so because of the economic benefit that the government and the investors gain. The government does not consider the economic effect of the system.

Monopoly has been brought about by investors who face no economic competition to carry out fishing activities. They have sophisticated machinery to carry out fishing and preserving them for the market, and this makes them be the price-makers while afew become the price takers. The prices can be unfavorable for the competitors who can have low resources to keep up with the competition in the market. The monopolists can have a lot in store and can dictate the output supplied in the market compared to the price takers who do not dictate the level of the products provided. They have superior market coverage compared to the price takers who do not, in most cases, determine their market given low resources they can possess. Monopolists ensure they have markets abroad, making them have supernormal profits compared to the price takers. There have been mergers acquisitions and strategies that have guaranteed there being top players in the fish industry globally.

As a social advocate, I would champion the rights of the price takers forced out of the market. I would urge that there be no mergers and acquisitions because they are aimed at driving others out of business, and so the market power is concentrated in the giant companies. It would ensure that the infant companies and the fishers have a share of the market. I would also urge that the price be fixed and set by the government regulators who will ensure no much fluctuation in the market. I would also request the rights of the fishers are drafted and passed to protect the price takers.  I would also request that the smaller scale companies and individuals form a trade union to champion their rights and set transparent platforms that are protected from the giant companies. I would propose that there be regulation on the amount of fish they harvest from the seas. I would also champion that a certain percentage placed on them on the amount of fish they can sell in the country, therefore, giving a chance to other small scale business people. If the giant companies have superior boats, I would recommend that they move more miles of the shore to conduct fishing, giving room for the small scale to hold a bit near the seashores.
