- Family refers to the relationships by blood, marriages or affection where the members may cooperate economically and care for the children. Also, the family might consider their identity to be intimately connected to the larger group. There are six distinct functions of the family. Regulation of sexual behavior stipulates who should engage in sexual behavior and under what circumstances. For instance, in my community, an individual should not engage in sexual behavior with a member of the family. Reproduction and socializing children is another function of the family. The families should produce new members and replace the ones who have dies. For instance, the children learn primarily from the family unit in my community. Property inheritance is another function of the family. For example, in my neighbourhood the children are heirs of their parents’ property. Economic cooperation is the first line of defence to provide these necessities. In my community, there is a division of labor to ensure the family has been provided. Social placement through minimization of conflict is another role of the family. For instance, all individuals in my community have a status in the society. Finally, the family offers care and protection to its members. In my neighbourhood, males are expected to provide protection.

- More women can support themselves financially, and marriage requires a high level of attainment as compared to before. Cohabitation refers to living with a romantic and sexual partner without being married. Fifty years ago, cohabitation was considered by many people to be immoral. However, today, most people have cohabitated before marriage. Selection effect and spurious are main reasons why cohabitation leads to divorce or unhappy marriages. I agree with these reasons since the cohabitants could have chosen partners for sexual purposes but not intending marriage.
- Violence is one of the typical family challenges in contemporary society. There is violence among family members or intimate partners. Various factors are leading to violence in families including, unemployment, economic issues and stress. Divorce is another significant problem for the family. There are challenges associated with divorce, which involves considerable emotional and financial strains. The most vital approach to counter violence and divorce is selecting the spouses who understand each other and discuss family problems together without violence.
- According to functionalism, education serves multiple manifest functions in society like socialization, social integration, and social placement, also social and cultural innovation. According to the conflict theory education promotes social inequality based on gender, race and class through standardized testing and tracking and impact the hidden curriculum. According to symbolic interactionism, the perspective focuses on social interaction in the classroom and other school venues.
- Education attainment refers to the number of years of school completion. The graduation rate for public high school students portrays a good picture of education attainment among different groups. For instance, the black rate is 68%, Hispanics 76% and Asians hold a higher figure of 93%. The inequalities between schools for black students have led to low education attainment. However, most Hispanics do not speak English leading to the difference in educational attainment. To lower the gap between black and Hispanics is to establish equality in the form of facilities in schools to encourage them to higher education. The Asian parents are supportive and have higher expectations from their students which can help lessen the gap with the White students.
- Social policy needs to be established to ensure all the minority groups have access to quality education. Also, the Head Start program has been proposed to intervene on behalf of poor preschoolers and their parents. I agree with these implementations, which will establish equality in access to quality education for all. The Race to Top Fund awards is another program which intends to lay comprehensive plans for school reforms. The use of data to inform support for educators in decision making. I also agree with these proposals since they aim at improving the educational attainment for all individuals.
