Introduction

Federalism is the law by a procedure of government whereby some individuals have ultimate power over the government, and the designated persons designate the organizations of states. In America, it is the division of authority between America state governments and the federal government of the United States. Since the establishment of the country, which was after the end of the Civil war, control shifted from the state towards the national government. It was a resolution for the difficulties of the article confederation, which gave slight practical power to the federal government. The federal government regulates foreign commerce and the interstates. It also can spend, set taxing, and declare war. The essay will discuss the future of American federalism.

More control of the federal government

The federal government acts as protection against a government that is a single ruler and has absolute power. The federal government spreads the power among the three branches. These branches equilibrium each other, and it serves as a caution to runaway power. More control is needed for the federal government to protect the tyranny that may go to the extent of hurting others in search of power. The federal government takes care of the people and protects them against people’s organizations and other groups that do not care about the suffering of the public.

The federal government should have control so that it can diffuse power. Federalism shares power with the state government, and the federal government is divided into three branches. This division serves as a means to ensure that all the power is not centralized into a group of people. When the federal government has more control, it will ensure that no one corrupts the power by ensuring it remains divided.

The federal government ensures and increases public participation. When power is divided, there is increased citizen’s ability to affect the government, lawmaking, and government policy. People take an interest in local and regional affairs. They engage in electing the provincial legislature. The federal government also lessens the burden of work. It is achieved by the division of power. Unlike where control is centralized, and one group has to perform all the tasks, the work is less bulky, and there will be a great job done.

When the federal government has more direction, there will be cultural and economic growth. With the establishment and growth of federation, interstate and state commerce are encouraged. The supply of goods and services is safeguarded in scares areas without much spending. It is easy to face natural calamities like drought and famine because the economic sources are increased in the federation. Through the economic policy, the country can start-up industries and build dams; thus, it is essential for the federal government to have control because it creates a stable economy for the present future purposes.

Federation helps in conflict management. It is achieved when different communities and states create their policies, they allow for people with differences that are irreconcilable or disagreements that cannot be solved to live in separate areas until they come up with solutions to settle their disputes. By so doing, there is the prevention of fights or destruction of properties, which can result from disagreements. By allowing many state governments, different policies can be tried, and the one that is effective at solving problems is applied in other states or national levels.

States policy

States should have more power in setting policies in their states because they ensure that education is available to everyone without unequal measures. The states concentrated on the most important things and set systems that are favorable to everyone. They provide that there are enough funds for smooth running through state taxation. The state’s control is good at coordination. The state government sees it easy to coordinate the disbursals because the local bodies are accountable for the educational funding implementation and authorization within their district.

When the state comes up with policies, they help in coming up with solutions to their problems that may be affecting them. States listen to citizens more, and their need and they respond to them by offering a solution and helping them cope with the problems they have, so it is essential for the states to set policies because they set policies based on facts and set strategies that will help the communities and their nations. In marriage policy, for example, the state sets laws that make sure every party is safe and when if the marriage does not work out, each party will be free with no disagreements that might cause war.

While setting the policies of the state, the states understand the sure way of upholding a person’s freedom is by protecting against centralized power. The rules ensure that every individual’s rights are addressed. They also look for the best way to solve problems that may arise without hurting others. Through policymaking, the states see to it that there is peace and harmony. The country is in charge of controlling the elections for the federal and local offices. The state sets policies that are followed by the public and the officials. States need to set the system because the state government can be responsive to the needs of the citizens. They can help the citizens with their problems like poor infrastructure, which might affect their businesses, job opportunities, among others. The state’s government can respond to their needs.

Coercive federalism

Coercive federation is where the federal government forces the state to change its policies using rules, orders, and conditions. In most cases, the federal government threatens to withdraw funds. Examples, where the federal government uses force are in the context of tax collection, and domestic insurgencies. When the federal government wants to collect tax that is used to pay United States debts or provide the welfare of the United States, it can use force to those to decline to pay tax. Due to changes in the federal estates’ tax laws that phased out the state pick-up tax valid for deaths. Lowa does not enforce a separate estate tax.

Conclusion

In conclusion, federalism divides power between the national government and other government units. It differs from the unitary government whereby a central authority has the power. Federalism is planned to protect the state welfares while generating a strong union led by an operative centralized national government. It helps in managing conflicts, encouraging communities, and states to come up with policies that help them in solving problems and allows people to run for political offices. However, federalism does not bring people closer to the government and undermining of policies. The government of the United States should come up with solutions to these problems.
