Fighting Back Against Obesity

According to some research, it is estimated that 60 million adults American are currently considered to be obese, while approximately 9 million are deemed to be severely obese. However, some studies approximated that American children from different age perspectives are considered obese. Children ranging from 6 to 11 years old are 15.3 percent, while 12 to 19 years old are presumed to be 15.5 percent. These statistics have presently attained considerable growth due to the increase in diseases and food-related health problems, which have evolved over decades. My primary research further reflects that America is suffering from some crisis, especially when health and food are involved in the issue. My research questions will be posed into two parts, which will be about the necessary procedures that should be undertaken to curb the obesity crisis. The primary questions involve, how can a family of four people with limited income conquer the statistics and work towards becoming healthier? And How the family would fight against obesity? My support thesis would be further aimed at viewing the possibility of eating healthier through some proper education concerning healthy food, attaining some support structures, and avoiding some bad eating habits.

I hope to explain how the problem is significant and what should be done about it throughout my research. This paper will, however, benefit readers by giving them knowledge concerning the crisis. The study will further encourage readers to think about appropriate measures to be done to reduce the risk. Through my research, I hope to also adjust my family’s food and routine exercises in order to help them become healthier. All my life, I have struggled with weight, and I have further managed to manage it by eating healthy food and having continuous body exercise activities. Besides, I would also want to educate myself about obesity and eating disorders. This will help me in gaining some knowledge regarding some signs to be looking for in my children in the health-related progress. Eventually, since I consider myself a religious person, I believe that God expects that every individual should be physically healthy, and we need to take care of our bodies. The church plays a big part in my life; thus, my project will be involving the formation of some support groups at my local church. In this case, part of my intended audience will be focused on the people who understand the value of a faith-based community. I also hope to reach other audience such as parents. This will primarily be based on parents who believe that they cannot afford a healthy diet due to a lack of money in their lives.

Sources Review

I have found a few sources in the library, but most of my sources originate from online databases journals. This is because diabetes topic has been a substantial topic, especially in the media platforms, thus it will be easier for me to access the most current and trending information on diabetes. Most of the journals I have researched have further acknowledged that America is deteriorating in terms of health and exercise, and the situation may worsen if the country will be reluctant to undertake some necessary steps of curbing the issue. However, some differences in the journals arise when it comes to making decisions on who should volunteer on making the changes. The question still lies on whether the responsibilities should be laid upon the parents, the schools, some specific individuals, the decision-makers of the food industry, or the lawmakers. Conversely, all my sources have cited particular experts in the industry. All authors have discussed the implications of this health crisis. Besides, all authors share a common goal in which they want health education to be taught in America. Also, the authors want people to change their eating habits before the situation has become extreme. The rise in healthcare cost and cost of death, have been outlined consequences, which have prevailed across all resources.

Nonetheless, one journal describes some methods of counseling for eating disorders (Kushner,2000). Another journal explores some of the roles that most of the politicians play in the issue of diabetes (Kersh,2005). Some other sources discuss some of the solutions to the problem (Gilman, 2010). Although my resources were not explicitly faith-based, I was contented with the information addressed in those journals.

A Plan for The Collection of Information

Since I have the required sources that I needed in my research, I am ready to begin my studies. However, I have some specific areas that I need to check on my next research. One of my few ideas would be based on finding some “fake” food convenience at home using healthier ingredients. Also, I would want to search for some specific benefits, which are attained some organic foods such as lower fat concentration beef.

Moreover, I do hope to obtain my information through an interview based on some specific questions. The questions will involve open questioning from a particular church member who had recently undergone gastric bypass surgery and had reduced the weight to 80 pounds. My purposed goal will be to understand what triggered the weight gain, which could be either genetic or lousy eating habits, and what drove her to undertake such a measure. I would further use my next lesson as my timeline for the interview.

Conclusion

I am hoping that my readers will want to change their habits and help others after reading my paper. I believe that America is in a health epidemic, and the failure of both citizens and lawmakers in undertaking the necessary steps in stopping the issue would further lead to a losing battle. I believe that it will be a difficult task trying to convince my readers to take care of their health and making significant changes in their lives. But, I can further create a sense of passion and urgency, which will help in persuading my readers to be educated and to change their eating habits. I also hope to develop a church group-based program that will be based on my research to create a change.
