“final” word of Past Caring, Cahan (1989)
In the “final” word of Past Caring, Cahan (1989) states: historically, differences in quality of childcare have been associated with differences in socioeconomic class. As we enter into an era in which child care, has for the first time, become a widely discussed political issue, we must remain mindful of the historical persistence of a tiered system of child care and education (pg. 50)
The poverty level has, for long, determined the quality of child care. Low-income families offer poor-quality child care, while affluent families provide exemplary child care. The wealthy families afforded the basic needs and were privileged to enroll their kids in schools. With time, many countries and institutional statutes have improved in their aspects of child care. These countries advocate for children. In the present day, human rights incorporate the children’s welfare, and strict measures are taken against anybody who tries to violate these rights. In this light, many countries advocate for compulsory primary and secondary education, for it is only through education that poverty is eradicated.
Keyserling (1972) cited the Child Welfare League of America Standards that for a daycare, the director should have professional education and experience in either the field of Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development or the field of social work, and knowledge of the contribution to daycare in the fields of health, education and social work.
A daycare is an institution designed for raising pre-school children. Parents entrust their children to the daycares’ directors for their welfare. A daycares’ director, and assistants, if any, should be knowledgeable. Early Childhood Education training is an essential child care tool. It equips the directors with an understanding of the different development milestones of a child. A daycare, being a crucial place should be linked to social institutions and health facilities. In case an accident occurs in this pre-school, the director knows and is connected to a health facility where they rush the kid to pursue treatment before engaging the parents of the child. The director makes arrangements for teaching kids fundamental skills that are necessary for a kid’s competence in joining the school. A religious center attached to the daycare is a significant institution for installing morals in children.
