FITNESS IN THE CLASSROOM – SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
Page 1: introduction (why sociologists study and care about fitness in the classroom) Page 2: functionalist view the functions of schooling (header): discus – fitnesses as one way of addressing social change (an increase of obesity, children not getting enough physical activity) Page 3: Bourdeau′s culture capital (header) – children will be able to learn about fitness and all it encompasses (can bring it home and educate their parents on healthy active living and nutrition), students will become well rounded (mentally and physically fit), fitness is bidirectional/ multi-purposed (helps with memory, and academic performance) Page 4: race and gender – students will be exposed to fitness in the classroom because they might not get the chance outside the school system because of society′s ideas (gender/ low women′s teams and race = usually low income and parents don′t have time to be active or have the funds to enroll in fitness or sports) [unique_solution]Page 5: Mental Health (header) – the education system is looking for different ways to help students with mental health issues since rates of depression and anxiety in students is at an all-time high. Exercise is an excellent way to help mitigate some of those symptoms.
