INTRODUCTION

In the 1980s, food was not the main thing that attracts people to London. No Londoner would consider this city as a global gourmet destination (Ellwood, 2016). Now with the growth spurt of social media back in 2010, more people are using online surfaces like Facebook, Instagram, and twitter to showcases their lifestyles to the outside world. London is the most visited city in the entire world. People travel to London for many things like sightseeing, outdoor activities, and shopping. Aside from all of these activities, restaurants in London benefits from all of these travelers and tourists visiting the city. London used to have an average reputation for its gourmet back in the day because of the generic steaks and chips that they served since the beginning (Ellwood, 2016). However, more than three decades later, London has thrived in many ways, and now tourists recognize that London has some of the finest cuisines in the world.

Since social media has been widely used, it is safe to say that it is a cultural thing for people around the world to take photos of their food and upload them online. Instagram is a popular platform where people could upload their photos and videos to their friends and followers. Influencers like them are creating a trend for people around the globe to come and explore the varieties of cuisines here in the city. London is famous for landmarks and parks, and now London will be busier than before since this new trend shows no sign of slowing down.

It is not surprising that people spend their time outdoors visiting the landmark, sightseeing, but they also enjoyed visiting different restaurants. Whether if it is fine dining restaurants from Michelin stars to street vendors, London has some of the most diverse food cultures in past years.

The city boasts of acclaimed chefs and its excellent food that people should now forget delicacy such as fish and chips (Ellywood, 2016). The growth is attributed to many factors, especially cooking shows which have dominated airwaves all over Britain. Other factors are, London is experiencing new breeds of chefs every day with confidence in experimenting and coming up with new cuisines by working together. New celebrity restaurants are coming up also, which boosts the trend as they attract more people to their influencing trend. Tasty delicacies play an essential part in travel destinations for any tourist decision (“Travel trends,” 2019). London, with its fame for famous world cuisine, diversity in the varieties of the restaurant and, pop up will continue to attract more tourists for many years to come.

Social media is an industry that has enjoyed lots of growth with people connecting and sharing all over the globe. Hence, its growth is parallel with the rise of the restaurant industry in London. Every day people share with the world they experience in London. It will continue attracting more and more people across the globe.
