Gender, Ethnicity Race and Religion

Gender:  this is considered as an invisible characteristic since a its used to denote an individual’s role particularly when referring to the society rather than the biological concept. Persons may be women or girls, boys or men, who are cisgender, transgender, or non-binary.

Ethnicity: is a visible characteristic since one can be able to identify a person’s race, culture, religion and language just by observation

Race: Race being a physical trait is considered to be a visible characteristic since one can be easily identified or recognised by the use of his or her skin colour.

Religion: it being a socio cultural belief, it is considered to be an invisible, as a person’s religion traditions and symbols cannot be seen on him in order to use it as a visible characteristic.

Socioeconomic status: this can be taken in as a visible characteristic since it entails a measure of an individual’s success, personal experience and his or her social and economic position.

Language: this is an invisible characteristic because language is a learned system of human communication which can be mutated and used by a particular community. A person’s language cannot really be used to define who a person is

Marital/relationship status: it’s used as an in visible characteristic because it involves a particular state of either being married, engaged or not at all and this cannot be seen on a person but rather inquire from them.

Parent or childless: Being a parent can expose a person’s identity. Hence this is considered to be an invisible characteristic.

Family size and composition: A person’s family size can be used to identify who he is since it’s a central expression oo our values and who we are, hence can be categorized as a visible characteristic.

Sexual orientation: A person’s sex can fully prove his or her identity. Being bisexual, hetero sexual or homosexual can reveal a person’s identity.

Education: This is a visible characteristic since it’s a form of identity an individual’s uses to shape his or her future socio economic status. An educated person can be identified among other people in a society.

Career: This is considered to be both visible and also invisible art the same time since some people actually are able to be adaptable as a core for their personality and identity.

 Reflection

Having matched the respective identification characteristics correctly to each individual, here are some of the characteristics that I managed to establish in each of the stories given;

Brandon- I managed to identify his gender, socio economic, marital and parental status, family size, sexual orientation, education level and career but never the less I failed to identify his race and ethnicity, parental status, religion and language but however from his picture I could identify his race and ethnicity, and from his story I got his parental status and language.

Guadalupe– I identified all the other categories since she said it all in her story except her race, ethnicity, education level and her marital status. However from knowing her nationality and home background I could identify her race, ethnicity and by knowing her age I could determine her marital status and education level.

Elizabeth– I identified her ethnicity, race, gender and all the others except her marital and parental status and sexual orientation. However from her story I managed to identify her sexual orientation.

Lessons

Brandon– from his story we get to learn that even if life becomes difficult a person should never give up but instead focus in his or her life objectives.

Guadalupe– I get to learn that disability is not inability and besides every hard situation you face in life, one should always be positive and work hard.

Elizabeth– I get a lesson that at a particular point in life one can lose everything but this should not be a reason as to why a person should give up in life.
