Gender Violence Against Women

Violating the Human Rights of women is increasing in the modern world, despite the campaigns held by several anti-violence activists and groups in different parts of the world. Estimates show that one woman out of three is or has been affected by violence in their lifetime, and approximately thirty-five percent of ladies have experienced either physically or sexually by their partners in the world. Another survey indicates that seven percent of women globally were sexually assaulted by different people other than their partners. The saddest part is that nearly thirty-eight percent of women who were killed, the acts were from their intimate partners, making it the highest ever-homicides in the current world. Other countries still practise Female Genital Mutilation on young girls and women. All these are issues affecting women in many locations and regions of the world. In this study, I put my focus on intimate violence happening to women in society and will suggest the possible solution to addressing this problem.

Culture and tradition play a significant part in contributing to the violence against women. It denies women the power to stand up and defend themselves, and they can not express their feelings because society has or does not recognize these acts, terming them as a paradox. How can a person who loves you kill, batter, or deny you the basic human needs and rights? That is the question requiring addressing as soon as possible. The problem is affecting a significant number of women, from tender ages until their adulthood. The losses are enormous to the nation, both socially and economically, with estimations of 3.7of some countries’ GDPs. Both developed and developing nations are faced with that issue of violence in the family setup.

People wonder how someone you claim to love you turns hostile and causes or inflicts you with severe injuries which results to death in some cases. Perpetrators are not just men, but even other women play a part in causing violence-based injuries to fellow women in society. A mother beating her daughter mercilessly is violence, but neighbors will say that the parent is disciplining their children. Men, on the other hand, use alcohol or drugs, challenges in workplaces, or using other people as a reason for committing violence in the family. Denying them access to medication after beating them up is a way to hide and keep the issue a secret. Women fear to tell their partners out in the hope that they will change. Instead, it rises from a single slap to intense beating and injuring. Love plays a significant role in the whole process, blinding the victims to believe that perpetrators will change. On the other hand, children beaten by their parents will not report them to police because they fear being outcasted and denied by their parents. Family violence is not considered as a significant criminal act, and many states lack the laws to recognize it and protect women against it. No particular sanctions have been made, and police will merely underestimate it, some not even responding to cries of a woman calling for help when being victimized by her partner. When a man and woman fight in a house, society takes it as a typical thing, until death happens, it is then that they start blaming the woman for keeping silent.

Possible Actions to Address the Issue

It is, therefore, necessary to have proper measures to address this issue in the community. Empowering women to open up and report their partners who turn violent so that solutions could be found before grave outcomes as death happen. Educating society about violence and effects, it causes to economic and social wellbeing. Media should report these incidents happening in the community, and expose the perpetrators. Cops to set aside a department that will deal with violence in the family, response units to quickly address the issue, and set aside an emergency number to enable victims to call and access help centres rapidly. Passing laws with severe sentences to scare off perpetrators from committing the crime could provide a solution.

Discover a problem that violates human rights, why is it a problem, what values or beliefs does this state of affairs violates for you? Discern what you hope to do about it, what actions you will engage in.
