Global Energy Dilemma
The world currently experiences an energy dilemma due to various reasons. One of the primary issues includes the overreliance on fossil fuels and its greenhouse effects. Although the world has depended on the use of fossil fuels as the source of energy for producing electricity, severe environmental problems are arising from it. Besides, there are fears that fossil fuels might diminish in supply, calling for the use of renewable energy sources. However, the current costs of renewable energy, such as wind power and solar power are costly that the majority of the world population cannot afford. Besides, there are problems with the safety of the use of nuclear energy since it threatens both life and peace on the earth’s surface.
- a) Overreliance on Fossil Fuels and its Greenhouse Effects
The world cannot sustain its energy demands without the use of petroleum products. The fossil fuels are pivotal in the supply of electricity, cooking, and running of other areas of the economy, such as manufacturing plants and the motor-vehicles. Since oil is non-renewable, it is possible to exhaust all sources leading to an energy crisis in the future. Besides, the environmental hazards of fossil fuels have caused a lot of panic in the global energy sector. It calls for a change in the source of energy to enable the world to use clean sources that do not contribute to environmental change.
- b) Cost of Green Energy
The cost of acquiring green energy sources such as solar panels is quite expensive that the majority of the world population cannot afford. Although the renewable sources of energy prove to be cheap over time, the initial costs have barred many people from acquiring them. Even the prices of buying electric cars so high that the majority of countries do not have them.
- c) Risks in Nuclear Energy Use
Nuclear energy is one of the alternatives to carbon fuels. However, it is quite dangerous to live on the earth’s surface and requires a lot of cautionary measures. Besides, it offers a lot of threats to world peace, which leaves the world confused about its future.
