Greek or Roman Humanities
Greek humanities refer to the study of Greek cultural practices such as sculpture, poetry, music clothing, and jewelry. The cultural traditions emerged from the humanitarians who fought for the rights of Greek people during the Roman invasion period. Pericles was among the significant historical people who are known for being the most influential Athens statesman. Despite being Athens statesman, he had other roles like being a leader, a military and an orator. Through his evident roles in serving Athens, he happened to be the most influential person to them. Pericles used his assigned tasks to influence the Athens people by promoting artistry and literature making Athens to be identified for having good educational and cultural backgrounds.
Pericles had great political leadership skills. He served as a Democratic Party leader before becoming Athens ruler. In his leadership, he emphasized on democracy (Perry, 242). Pericles was voted in as a leader by the people. He was such an influential leader because he got elected at a period when democracy was not observed. However, his intentions and efforts to enhance democracy remained valued. Some historical records indicate that Pericles leadership skills were perfect, which caused him to be voted again after reelection. During his ruling period, he was able to join the military, which created a good environment for him to work closely with Athens. As a military, he changed the Delian Legue into an Athenian empire (Greenwood, 163). He ruled his country during the first years of Peloponnesian war and participated in the war as a military. He also tried to overthrow Oeniadea, but he never succeeded before returning to Athens. In the 450 to 449BC Pericles solved the conflict between Athens and Persia. Pericles led the Athenian army in the second sacred war when they had a dispute with Delphi and gave Phocis their power back over the Oracle. The greatest achievement of Pericles as the military was during the year 447 BC where he expelled the barbarians from Theracian Pensula of Gallipolli and developed an Athenian colonist in the region. Finally, his last military activity happened when he went back to Euboea and punished the residents who had butchered a crew composing Athenian by evacuating them from the land and replaced them with 2000 Athenian settlers. Being a leader and a military with excellent oratory skills he was able to interact more with the Athens
Pericles influenced Athenians through his good oratory speeches. Some historians and writers who were able to obtain his work indicate that he had good oral skills (Kapparis, 34). However, nobody has ever had his written speeches as he did not write. The prepared speeches termed as his, are paraphrased by the writers, and nobody is sure whether they are the actual speeches or writer has altered his original information. One historian referred to as Kegan indicated that Pericles used advanced, correct and fluent speeches. Another writer known as Diodorus Siculus stated that Pericles oral skills ware excellent than all the other people in the country. The writers further noted that he never used stunt language in his speeches and that he always spoke in a cool, polite manner. With all his hard work and passion for serving people, he is still remembered in promoting artistic works of the golden age and literature. He is recognized for his efforts in fighting for democracy.
In summary, Pericles being an Athenian statesman participated significantly in influencing Athens. One of the ways he changed Athens was through his leadership skills. His interactions with them as their leader made the people like him and elect him several times as their leader until he died ruling. Having good oratory skills, he was able to interact freely with everybody in the country. He is remembered because he promoted artistry and literature, which made Athens to be known for having an excellent educational and cultural background. Most people recall him for his efforts in ensuring democracy regardless of ruling at the times when democracy was not conducted.
