Gun Control Law solution

            The topic of gun control is one that is sensitive and controversial in equal measures and has been discussed for far too long. Because of the emergence of tragic shootings that have permeated the media in recent times, people have continued to ask the best way to approach gun usage (Ausman & Faria, 2019). Of utmost interest is whether it is an effective way to control crime. There are those with the view that restrictions placed on gun ownership will help in alleviating crime. The opponents, on the other hand, have the perception that gun control won’t do much in controlling crime. On the average, all citizens who abide by the established laws of the land ought to be permitted to carry guns with them so that they defend themselves against aggressors of any kind and in this way it will help in controlling crime rate.

The act of controlling guns and arms will not prevent criminals from owning guns (Gable, 2017). Much as there may be laws that have been passed aiming at restricting gun usage by criminals, it may not be successful at bringing to an end mass shooting incidents. Criminals already have the intention of not obeying established laws. So when they have the opportunity to use their guns, they may end up using them indiscriminately whether there are laws or not (Wozniak, 2017). This is why gun control may not be the right way of controlling crime as established laws do not guide criminals. Criminals are known to be controlled by their psychotic behaviour to do whatever they do. Going forward, the best way to tame the criminals from their actions is when law-abiding citizens are issued with guns, and so criminals may fear using the ones they have acquired illegally.

The past and even present laws of the land have not been successful at putting in place stringent measures that control the selling of guns to criminals. To this end, relevant bodies and authorities should come up with alternatives that may help in managing this kind of mayhem (Gable, 2017). Since there are too many guns being sold illegally, criminals end up getting them to aid their heinous mass shooting incidents. The black market has a lot of money whenever one gets to sell guns through the same, and, this is something known to criminals. They end up getting guns quickly since they have free money to spend on the same. Instead of having more stringent gun control laws, the government should come up with more campaigns that will educate the general public on the misuse of guns (Wozniak, 2017). Towards this end, more people will be trained and enlightened to the extent that cases of gun misuse by criminals will be brought under control. For instance, the gun law in California specifies that an individual who has been convicted of a crime will not be permitted to own a gun throughout the rest of their life. Criminals, quite often, end up disregarding such laws (Ausman & Faria, 2019). Therefore, much as it is illegal for these criminals to own guns, they will still get and own guns illegally. Thus, much as there are more gun laws, it wouldn’t mean that felons will follow the established rules, and so having more control on guns will not solve violence or crime.

Established laws on gun control infringe on the freedom of owning guns to use for sport and hunting (Gable, 2017). Majority of hunters have the belief that “common sense” laws on guns that the government wishes to impose may not apply to them. Majority of hunters have the notion that the laws on guns will only apply to criminals along with mentally unstable individuals. Hence, they may go ahead and hunt undeterred. Nevertheless, the government goes on to put in place some more laws, and these even make it harder for regular people to buy guns. At the time that the second amendment was brought forth, there were no gun control laws, but with time, the United States has accumulated many of these laws (Gable, 2017). Whatever may begin as some “common sense” law on guns will ultimately end up as banning of firearms, and this will most likely affect hunters. In California, the law does not permit unauthorized people to have with them guns within school vicinities. Consequently, it directly affects high school students since it makes it difficult and also impossible for them to have trap teams (Wozniak, 2017). As the law cannot permit schools to carry on their practices within their various campuses, they end up being forced to get alternative places for the same. Majority of schools do not have these alternative locations for holding trap teams, and hence students are denied this opportunity of having trap teams. This means that the freedom of these students is affected.

Gun control does not help solve crime. However, it becomes successful at violating the freedom of U.S citizens for other permitted activities like hunting and sport. Instead of having more gun control laws, it is incumbent upon the government to use alternative means of controlling crime such as creating public awareness on the dangers of crime. This would then give the government opportunity to issue all law-abiding citizens with guns that would enable them to protect themselves from felons.
