Introduction

Gun control refers to any legal measures whose intention is to restrict or prevent the possession of guns, more so firearms. In the United States of America, the right to bear arms is protected by the second amendment of the US constitution. In many parts of the world, violence using guns has been an unavoidable occurrence with the public frequently witnessing numerous attacks. America has fallen a victim of this, and unless a step is taken, we will continue to lose our loved ones. Many claim that they own guns for self-defense, but this is not the case. The various shootings are occurring in schools and recreational centers, such as in clubs, are scaring. Media bias has, however, made it hard for the public to get the right informating regarding gun control.

The media plays a vital role in discussions on gun violence in the manner in which they discuss and describe issues. Through the process of framing, the media identifies and defines a problem and its cause, then offers a justified solution to such a problem how the media reports affect the understanding of the audience of the same information. If the media is biased in the reporting of an issue, this changes the view of the audience regarding the same problem and their attribute to responsibility. This is what is affecting nearly all Americans, and it seems the solution isn’t easily reachable. We have put our trust in the government for our safety, but we are still losing people through violence. Who should we trust then? The information which the government is disseminating through the media regarding gun violence is biased, and unless we wake up from our reverie, we will continue to suffer.

Various debates on gun control have not provided enough solution for this tragedy. Most of the gun debates result in public policy that is considered acceptable by major ruling bodies such as the senate. The proponents of safety legislation on gun violence claim that laws aimed at expanding background checks reduce the lethal effect of firearms, with many other sensible approaches aimed at preventing injury and death occurring from the same. However, other proponents of more open firearms policies claim that having guns in the hands of good people will promote safety. They add that restricting access to firearms is not the resolution to gun violence in the United States. These opposing viewpoints, as reported by the media, create a mixed reaction among the public. They have further created difficulty when solving the issue of gun violence in the United States.

Gun violence in America takes numerous forms, such as suicides, homicides, law-enforcement killings, unintentional deaths, and serious injuries. The toll of gun violence in America is horrific, and it is currently on the increase. In the past decade, reports indicate that over 1.2 million Americans have been shot and more that one million have also witnessed first-hand gun violence. Nearly every American will one time in their lives know a victim of gun violence. On average, 36,000 Americans are killed every year by guns. This gives an average of 100 people each day. Additionally, 100,000 Americans get injured from guns everyear, and the number is increasing each year. Between 2014 to 2017, deaths resulting from gun violence has increased by 16%. Any effort to save the lives of Americans from gun violence should address all mentioned categories of gun violence.

Media biasness has brought a negative impact, especially in American society. The issue of gun control has been a somewhat important matter but has turned to be a more significant concern, especially in recent years. Founding fathers thought of the nation that gun control was an essential issue for creating the second amendment. As society has progressed technologically, new incidences that influence public opinion have arisen, and this has brought changes to the current policies. However, the primary debate in American society is on how gun control will affect citizens. Media biasness is influencing the outcome of this.

Conclusively, safety from gun violence doesn’t mean less shooting or robberie. Every American must promote safety through coordinated efforts. The media should stop holding the government responsible for any form of gun violence. However, it should not misrepresent the real picture of gun violence for the benefit of all citizens. Efforts aimed at promoting better media coverage could be the solution to US gun violence.
