Habitat/Niche
I live in an urban system, which I would refer to as a town habitat. While my habitat is densely populated with human beings, the tropical rainforest accommodates a countable number of human beings. However, there is an abundance of wild animals and vegetation in the tropical rainforest compared to my town habitat. In fact, there is no wild animal in my habitat. Moreover, while my habitat is composed of high-rise buildings, tropical rainforest is composed of build-up trees and bushes. However, it is important to note that human beings can live and survive in the two habitats. Other factors that are common in both habitats include the existence of a physical geography and landscape elements.
Drawing from a contrast between my niche and that of an ecologist studying sloth behaviour, there is no doubt that I share some of the normal daily routines with the ecologists such as taking breakfast in the morning and supper in the evening. Additionally, as I take time to go through my assignments and do research using books and internet sources, I am also certain that the ecologist must be perusing research files to establish some facts about the behavior of a sloth. However, our niche also differs in varied ways. I visit the school for my studies while the ecologist visits a sloth’s habitat and a laboratory. Moreover, as I go out to play my favorite game in the evening, the ecologist goes to the library for further research. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
My ability to manage time effectively would be critical in adding to my survival advantage in my current niche. If I were in the niche of the ecologist studying sloth behavior, experience, and knowledge in the scientific field would enhance my survival advantage. In regards to my survival in my current habitat, education and employment would increase by competitive advantage. However, in case I occupy the tropical rainforest habitat, I would strive to acquire hunting skills and knowledge about natural herbs to increase my survival advantage.
To adapt to the urban habitat, human beings have built comfortable shelters to keep them safe from criminal elements. They have also embraced technology, which helps them to operate numerous activities with ease and at the comfort of their places of work and homes. To adapt to the tropical rainforest habitat, human beings have acquired knowledge about the medicinal, edible, and poisonous plants. They have also learned the art of fishing and hunting without rendering the animals extinct. To adapt in my niche, human beings engage in planning and scheduling of their activities to meet their set timeframe. To adapt into the niche of the ecologist studying sloth behaviour, human beings have built a natural habitat for the sloth in research centers, which also provide other research resources such as laboratories and libraries to the ecologists within the premises.
Living in the assigned niche would be challenging to me because of the lack of knowledge about sloths. Due to insufficiency in my scientific research experience, I must admit that I would omit important observational information about the research subject. Additionally, I will have difficulties understanding complex scientific concepts associated with the research. I would be afraid of not achieving the research objectives.
Living in my niche, I have embraced the culture of partying and having fun with my colleagues. We have developed a habit of organizing and attending parties on weekends. I have also adapted to the education culture, which has been made mandatory by law. On weekdays, I am used to the routine studying and engaging co-curricular activities in the afternoons and evenings. Therefore, one would also state that I am engrained into the sports culture since my main co-curricular activity is playing badminton. These cultures are essential for my psychological and physical growth as a young human being. The only serious challenge for participating in these cultures would be balancing the needs for all the activities. If I lived in the assigned niche, I would develop research tendencies and, therefore, considered to be part of the research culture. I would also be immersed into the studying culture with the purpose of discovering new things in the scientific field. I would be pervaded with ecological studies. The benefit of the research and studying culture would be marked by the remarkable solutions I would come up with for ecological problems. The challenge for the adaptation of the culture would be my interest in engaging in other activities such as family functions since research is time-consuming.
A sloth is classified under the biotic components of the environment because it is a living thing that exhibits several characteristics of life. Firstly, sloths reproduce. The adult females produce one baby every year. Sloths also experience metabolism, but the process occurs extremely slow, making them cling to trees for several days without seeking for food. Additionally, sloths can adapt to environmental conditions. They have dense coats that enable them to keep warm during the rainy and cold seasons.
