habits of my mind
In life, every person has a distinct mind habits which makes him standout to be successful or a failure in life. It is through these distinct habits in life that brings difference between people even in their adult life. Personally, my two strongest habits in my life have always been responsibility and curiosity. However, these two habits of my mind have not been without a stain as persistence to doing things which I have less interest in has been my major weakness not only in my academic journey but also in my general life as a child.
Being the first born in my family has greatly natured my two mind habits. Compared to my initial experiences as the first born, where I could be left in charge of my two young brothers whenever my parents were not around only for them to return home and find nothing has been done, today the case is different. This is because I have learnt to be responsible enough to run the family whenever my parents are not around and making sure that everything is in order. One of the approaches which hindered me before from being successful in controlling the family was procrastination, where we could first get into playing assuming that there was still enough time to perform our duties only to get addicted in the play until it’s very late.
I have realized that prioritizing is part and parcel of being responsible in life, a fact that has waved away procrastination completely in my life. Through this approach, I first ensure that we are through with whatever chores we are left with by our parents before engaging in any other activity.
From my tender age, I have been always curious in matters concerning education because of the mentality that it was the only sector where curiosity could help me succeed. However, I came to learn that this habit of mind was of great importance in general life the hard way. My youngest brother has been suffering from asthma since his tender age, a condition which has been a great threat to his life due to the manner in which it attacks him. This condition has forced the parents to always have first aid medicines which are administered through injections to cool the condition whenever it emerges unexpected.
Despite of the fact that I had been watching my parents administer the first aid, I had never been curious to learn how it is done until the condition attacked him while my parents were away, I can vividly recall how I rushed to the nearby hospital looking for someone who could help administer the first aid to him. To my surprise, all the counters in the hospital were empty and could not trace anyone to talk to. Few minutes passed while running from one corner to the other without tracing anyone who could help me out. Imagining of the condition I had left my brother at, I went mad. I screamed very loud until all the staff came out of the boardroom where they were having a meeting to inquire what was happening with me. I explained to one of the nurses who had rushed for my rescue and agreed to help me out. Reaching home my brother was almost dying, thanks to the nurse who administered the first aid very fast and saved by brothers life.
From such an experience of watching my brother almost die on my hands, I have learnt to always be curious whichever the case. I became keen for the next two weeks and I could be able to administer the first aid to my little brother. From the moment on, my curiosity habit has become all round, not only in academics but also in general life. Whatever thing is done by other people around me, I have always been eager to learn. And because some of these ventures are hard to learn, this habit has also enabled me to be persistent in order to grasp the ideas. This has enabled me to deal with my weakness of persistence.
