Harmful Effects of American Diets
Eating habits form a very core aspect of every community, and this is also the same case among Americans. It is, however, worth noting that most Americans prefer Western Diets, which are convenient and readily available. These foods have devastating health implications, and as such, the Americans ought to avoid consuming western diets, and if avoidance is not practical, they should control the same. Both the health and food industries benefit by accumulating profits through manufacturing new drugs for the public to purchase (Khazan 13). It is the high time that Americans leave western diets and turn back to healthy diets as well as the lifestyle of their ancestors. In addition, convenience stores don’t sell better food because very few people prefer shopping there. The American stores sell junk foods or the ‘‘western diets’’ which harm the body, and the Americans should not consume ‘‘western diets’’ because they cause health implications such as obesity, lead to the emergence of convenience stores and compromise the role of the healthcare industry.
The Americans should be careful about Western diets because they cause health complications such as obesity among all populations. The consumption of junk foods causes obesity after amounts of cholesterol and fats clog in the body. Americans have embraced the fact that they should consume specific types of diets, and there is a notion they are part of their lifestyle (Pollan 437). As a result, these diets are associated with ‘‘western diseases’’ which force Americans to incur more costs while seeking treatment. A lot of funds which ought to be used to develop other sectors are used to seek health care. The theories of nutritionism have been responsible for dictating what Americans consume (Pollan 439). In other words, Americans embrace the fact that feeding is just meant to maintain the body’s growth. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Secondly, western diets have encouraged the emergence of convenience stores. These stores are known to sell junks and ready-made food. This favours persons who may not prefer to cook as a result of their occupations. In most cases, convenience stores do not sell better food since they aim to make more profits regardless of the quality to meet the demands of the market (Khazan 15). The stiff competition in the market also encourages more convenience stores, which is also responsible for the sale of western diets.
Lastly, western diets compromise the roles of the healthcare industry. The healthcare industry aims to make profits through the introduction of new drugs. The prevalence of diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes will force the public to turn to healthcare facilities for care services. Notably, the healthcare industries have embraced theories of nutritionism for many years (Pollan 440). The healthcare industry should step up and educate the public on healthy diets free from diseases and other health complications.
In summation, Americans should avoid consuming western diets since they lead to obesity, have led to the emergence of convenience stores, and compromise the roles of the healthcare industry. The health industry should also step up and educate the public on good diets as well as the importance of natural foods. Physicians and nurses should also provide facts regarding food culture and history to reduce hospital visits or admissions. The Americans should also refrain from buying food from convenience stores since they promote the sale of western diets. It is the high time that Americans avoid consuming western or convenient diets and turn to foods that promote their health.
