Health care organizations

Health care organizations play a critical role in every society and are, therefore, some of the most essentials units that need constant monitoring. Negligence or lack of adherence to health care standards by such organizations may lead to loss of lives and consequently affect other sectors of a country such as the economy and political stability. Just like public learning institutions, health care organizations are required to undergo accreditation which involved the review of a particular organizations ability to meet regulatory requirements and standards established by a particular accreditation body. Accreditation, therefore, reelects of an organizations commitment and dedication to meet standards and maintain a high level of performance in providing quality health care. Accreditation bodies such as The Joint Commission use a number of standards in accreditation, and through teamwork, health care professionals can meet the daily needs of their patients.

The Joint Commission offers accreditation to health care organizations as well as health care providers after an onsite evaluation by the organization and satisfaction of compliance with the organization’s standards which are the basis of ab objective evaluation processes. The commission relies on certain standards which are developed with input from health care professionals, subject matter experts, government agencies and consumers. Moreover, the standards are based on scientific literature, expert consensus and reviews by the board of commissioners (The Joint Commission, n,d). Joint commission standards revolve around patient quality care and safety, positive impacts on health income, adherence to law and regulation and the ability of the standards to be accurately measured.

Before coming up with a set of standards, the joint commission goes through a standard development process outlined on their website (The Joint Commission, n,d). First, the commissions select certain quality and safety issues and suggest a need for modification if additional requirements supported by research from scientific literature, advisory groups, professionals and accredited organizations. The second step involved the preparation of drafts by joint committee’s experts, stakeholders, advisory panels and focus groups after which the draft is distributed nationally for review and made available for comment on the standards field sections on the joint commission’s website. What follows after the publication is a series of revisions and final approval by the executive leadership? A survey process is then enhanced to address the new standard requirements, and pilot testing of the survey is then conducted. Surveyors are also educated on how to assess compliance with the new standards after which the field publishes the approved standards. Once the standard is effective, ongoing feedback is sought for the purpose of continuous development.

Although accreditation plays an integral role in ensuring that health care organizations provide quality services to patients, professionals with these institutions also play a critical collaborative role in ensuring that patients attain quality health care (Hobson et al., 2010). A nurse, for instance, provides care to patients and help them meet their needs, prevent illness and treat certain health conditions. To achieve their role, they need to constantly monitor the patients and record any important, relevant information that will aid in either disease treatment for decision making. Nurses, are therefore in charge of the holistic care of patients on their roles extend to physiological, development, spiritual and cultural needs of an individual. Besides nurses, pharmacists also play an integral role in the attainment of quality care. As medication experts, [pharmacists can use their expertise to prevent medication errors as well as improving medication health experts by advocating for and ensuring safe and effective medical use.

The relationship between health professional splays a critical role in quality health care service delivery. Nurses and pharmacists for part of the majority of health care professionals and have close links with regards to the services they provide. A great relationship between nurses and pharmacists can ensure the improvement of patient quality care and help in the provision of the right medication for the patents (Hobson et al., 2010). The health care system is, therefore, one of the most complex yet important sectors that require not only the highest standards of quality but also cooperation and collaboration among health professionals to attain quality services delivery.
