High school life and college life have both the worst and the best memories for the majority of us. During high school life and college life, it is time one can make either his or her best or worst choice in life. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of the similarities and differences that exist between high school life and college life. For instance, high school life is cheaper as compared to college expenses and fees paid by the students. On the other hand, both high school and college life have rules, and they follow an organized syllabus and many other similarities. Hence, this essay will discuss the difference and similarities of college and high school life because they have many similar sources and many different sources like rules and regulations, and different time management and times scheduled.

Differences

It is evident that high school and college life contrast in many aspects. Social life, classes and the kind of responsibilities in each level of education make the differences. The difference between social life, classes and responsibilities can differ in various ways (Song, 22). Thus, the following are some of the key difference between college and high school life.

Social group and their choices

High school life limits the kind of friends one can make a choice since many high schools have a low population. A high school student has only the choice of forming from his or her class because they do spend most of their time together. Normally, the high school population is much less when compared to the college population. On the other hand, college students can have a variety of choices to select their friends. A college student can make friends, depending on the responsibilities or activities a student might be involved in (Song, 24). for instance, a student can choose his or her friends from a dance club, hockey club as well as when a student becomes as leader of either a club or student leader.

Expenses

Education for high schoolers in many countries is affordable and mandatory to all. In many nations, countries and states, students in high school learn at almost zero cost. Texts books for high schoolers are readily available and at low costs. Many students in high school stay with their guardians or parents, and this leads to a low cost of living for them. On the contrary, college education expensive and optional for many students. Textbooks used in colleges are costly and can only be assessed easily from national or institutional libraries (Song,27). College students also experience the high cost of living because they stay at rental apartments, feed themselves, and they have to travel from their apartments to school during weekdays

Rules and regulations

Rules in high school are meant to enable students to grow and become responsible citizens or adults in future. Things such as food are not permitted or allowed in classes, and a student has to adhere to the dressing code of the school. Teachers, student leaders and the disciplinary committees make sure that these rules and regulations adhere to the later. However, in colleges or higher institute of learning rules and regulations are lesser in order to give a student the freedom of choosing the right thing. Many lecturers or professors in college do allow students to choose for themselves what is appropriate, and the punishments or penalties for minor misconducts are taken lightly (Reedy,247). The code of dressing in colleges is up to the expectation or preference of the students and interestingly, every student dress as he or she likes.

Time management and time schedule

The high school depends on fixed programs, and every student has to adhere to as well as having no or little say on how the programs should be scheduled and managed. Each day is normally planned, and every student is expected to follow these programs and schedules as he or she finds in school. On the other hand, this totally different in colleges. Classes or lectures are normally scheduled at a time that is convenient for each and every student. Students are also nor expected to wake up early since, in colleges, there are no morning classes (Reedy,250). Finally, students have the freedom of managing their free time as they think is right.

Similarities

Both colleges and high schools are learning institutes or levels that prepare students for the future. High school and college exhibit some similarities (Reedy, 351). Below are some of the similarities that both high school and college have.

They both follow a syllabus

The main aim of students to attend both levels of education is to acquire knowledge and skills. Therefore, this requires both institutes to have a syllabus that should be followed. Assignment in both high school and colleges are mandatory (Leech, 373). Students are also expected to sit for exams and be graded as per how they performed

Rules

Rules exist in both levels of institutes with the aim of bringing students in order. Rules and regulation, therefore, have to be implemented at each level of an institute for the purpose of controlling the behaviour of students (Leech, 375). For instance, students are not allowed to have drugs or alcohol around school premises.

Students graduates

During high school life, students have the dream of proceeding to the next level, and they have to work to achieve their dreams. This makes the bridge between what a student wants to be in future. Similarly, a college student has to graduate in order to start a career (Leech, 378). this implies that students at each level; therefore, graduates to the next level.
