Homelessness and medical health

Homelessness is the state of people having problems of shelter: people staying in areas with large crowds, spending nights in streets, living in friends or relatives’ homes or spending nights in hotels or any other place you feel not safe and suitable for you to spend.  Mental health is any psychological, social well-being or emotional feeling that hinders how we do things, approach to situations, and feel about ourselves. Mental fitness helps us have self-esteem, be courageous to show the relationship with others, and free stress. Hence mental health is highly witnessed to people with no homes in comparison to those with homes, where most cases of suicides; people harming themselves are generally high.

A lack of job opportunities can cause homelessness and mental health. People who are not employed or those who do not own employment tend to have low living standards hence unable to rent hoses to stay or built their own. When not in a position to: they will be forced to remain in unsuitable areas which are necessarily not good for their health.  Staying in those areas results in diseases caused by coldness like the common cold, whooping cough, and others caused by poor hygiene and sanitation like typhoid, cholera, among other health problems. Homelessness can also be caused by drug abuse, people with excessive use of alcohol and other drugs will have no ideas to save for houses, because of depression and hallucinations, tending to them staying in unconducive environments hence medical illness. A lack of support can also bring it to disabled people who can’t do anything to them manually or without education.

People suffering from homelessness are highly discriminated against and always get higher victimization from people with homes. The discrimination is because people with households tend not to understand why others are homeless, for they still think it is caused by laziness or lack of proper programs for people’s lives.  Homeless people are noticed to have higher death rates since many of them practice suicides, others die from diseases, and animals and gangs in the streets also attack them.  Mental health and homelessness also cause low living standards to other people and the economy; for instance, homeless people who stay in relatives or friends’ homes increase the population in corresponding families. Homeless people have stress on how to get homes and raise their families, which leads to a lack of sleep. They are also stressed about where they will spend their nights when night comes. Homeless people get skin and blood vessel disorders because of being bitten by insects; they swell legs and arms since they sleep, exposing some parts.

Homelessness and mental health can be minimized by; creating more job opportunities, fighting drug abuse, helping the disabled get education and jobs, educating our youth, and ensuring standards are set for them, giving funds support to the poor or planning projects to equip the poor. The government should also ensure there is good access to health care for homeless people.

Generally, the government should set up goals and standards to minimize homelessness and mental health, since the adverse effects are more than the positive results. People should be educated to show love and never discriminate against homeless people; instead, take proper care to them where they can and show their projects and jobs so that they may get or hire places to settle.
