Hormone therapy
There are different disorders that one may suffer from. They range from hormonal to non-hormonal, and they thus have different treatment processes. Hormones play a different role in the treatment of both hormonal and non-hormonal disorders. The hormones play a role in the treatment of non-hormonal disorders, and an example is in cancer control and cure. Patients who have cancer undergo hormone therapy, which slows or stops the growth of cancer cells, which require hormones to grow.
Hormone therapy has two groups which include, those that block the body from producing certain hormones and those that interfere with how hormones work and behave in the body. The use of hormone treatment in cancer patients is to interfere with the production of the hormones that encourage the growth of the cancer cells in the patient’s body. This thus lowers or slows cancer growth giving the patient a long time to live.
The role of hormone therapy in cancer patients include, first, treatment of cancer. Hormone therapy is known and has been used to lessen that cancer will return, stop, or slow cancer growth. Doctors administer various medications to cancer patients in which the dose administered interferes with the body mechanism, thus interfering with the growth of cancerous cells. This will stop, slow, or at the end, heal the cancer.
Secondly, hormone therapy to prostate cancer patients is useful as it eases cancer symptoms. The patients are not reliable for surgery or even radiation. Thus, to lessen the pain and reduce the cancer symptoms, they are taken through hormone treatment, and this is of help to them. At times it may be hard to tell that a person has cancer, especially when the symptoms are not evident, but precisely the patient may be undergoing hormone therapy at the moment.
