Household gender inequality
For decades now, women have been championing gender equality globally. The various elements of gender equality that women want to including political representation, social fairness, education, and economic justice, which they want to be the same as that of their male counterparts. However, the reality of this truth is far from what it is. Despite the global outcry to have genders equality both in workplaces and at home, women do not feel like they should be equally responsible in the household aspect as the men (Eek et al., 179). In most places across the world, men are the head of the house charged with various household responsibilities that the women. This essay seeks to develop insight into the inequalities that exist between women in the household as a result of the little duties that women do take.
Studies across the various states in Asia and Africa does reveal that men are considered the head of multiple households. This is due to the numerous responsibilities which they do take. For example, the study does show that men take principal household responsibilities such as paying for house rents and mortgages, school fees, essential household properties buying. Most of the women are only left with the duties of purchasing everyday food and supplementary household shopping. However, most women do champion for equal rights and representation of the various aspect of life from the workplace, political, social scenes, and at homes. Most women do believe that those who hold vital responsibilities do belong to men or husbands. As such, the trend has spread and has, over time, become the reality of the order of the day. As a result of the same, most women do not seem to have this sense of responsibility for equally sharing most of the duties with the men.
In most households across the world, women do take backstage in getting involved in most of the household responsibilities. Most of the families do believe that the key responsibilities are and have become the role of the father. As such, women are left with the simple duties of the house, doing most of what are supplementary functions or responsibilities of the house. Despite this inequality in household contributions, women are always pushing for gender equality in their homes (Eek et al., 181). The women in many ways do advocate for the men to be involved in other roles such as taking care of the baby, cooking, and washing, or cleaning the house. Most of the Women do forget that there are other responsibilities such as those of providing for the critical needs of the family in which they are never involved in (Fincher, 38).
Conclusion
Generally, the element of gender inequality remains one primary global concern both at workplaces and even down to the household. This is caused by the little or even no participation of the women in the household responsibilities, which have been mainly left to men. Men are usually involved in the provision of the essential household needs and critical responsibilities, which makes them the head of the most houses. There is a need for equality to be achieved, though. However, this would also call for the women to start taking crucial such household responsibilities as the men.
