How I would use ethical considerations in decision making and solving conflicts

Philosophers may argue about the ethical duty of a Sergeant Major to soldiers; others may suggest that the primary purpose for existence of the military is to engage in war when needed by national defense policy and win. Every military has organizational goals and their primary focus. Some of the rues may be preventing discrimination in the military workplace, which will be done by embracing employees to employer relationships. Organizations moral duties should extend beyond serving the interest of their employees. Employees’ interest should be looked at to avoid conflicts in the workplace. Ethics in an organization should ensure that trust exists between the employees in various organizational departments. For instance, a project manager should give every employee a voice when making big decisions

Conflicts of employees in an organization may happen when employees are treated less well than others in the workplace because of age, race, and religion, or sexual orientation. The organization has the mandate to stop this kind of vice in the workplace, but creating such an environment free of conflicts and discrimination will rely on the efforts of every employer and employee present in the organization. This situation means that it is with people working together that will set the stage for a discriminatory of the culturally aware workforce.

How I would use ethical considerations in decision making and solving conflicts.

I would use the social contract theory to prevent conflicts. The social contract is a philosophical concept that is fundamental for an organization. According to this theory, moral rules should be stipulated so that people cannot violate regulations no matter the status of authority in an organization. In this theory, the Sergeant Major has a moral obligation to all parties involved in the outcome of its activities; this includes the soldiers and their families. In regards to conflicts, I would approach cultural differences amongst the soldiers with an open mind at work without assuming my prejudices and assumption. For instance, most organizational laws stipulate that it is forbidden for any employee to take time out to practice their religious activities while working(Loe et al., 2000). Due to this stipulation, conflicts may arise due to misunderstandings, especially if the community surrounding the organization has the same traditions. This scenario means that I would have to apply social contract theory as a Sergeant Major while dealing with such kind of dilemma. I would also ask questions if there be need to know about certain aspects of diverse cultures so that I handle the answers with respect and open- mindless. Later I would formulate rules that will favor every employee and at the same time, respect the cultural diversity of the community that surrounds them.

I would also consider using social contract theory in making ethical decisions, taking into considerations the voice of the employees so that it avoids unnecessary conflicts. The employees make up the most significant part of the organization, and they would primarily be affected by the decisions of the organization. Create environments that make the employees feel free to raise any ethical issues (Mitchell et al., 2019). The theory of practical give rights to employees to express their freedom of speech since its primary mandate is to provide justice and fairness to an individual. It instills the ability of an organization to judge an employee’s character rather than the action. The theory gives all employees a chance to explain any behavior, and from there, the personal character is judged.

I would also apply utilitarian ethical theory to help me predict the consequences of my decisions and also actions. It would be my moral obligation to loom out for the welfare of my employees to do away with conflicts. Conflicts do involve not only pay and working conditions but also includes the wellbeing of the employees. I would ensure that the welfare of the organization and employees remain the dominant consideration, and I would make a decisions in a manner that would demonstrate genuine concern.

Conclusion

In summary, an organization must treat all its employees with respect and fairness to avoid employee conflicts. Employees are entitled to count on the organization, especially in matters such as pay, raises, and promotions. As already discussed, the two theories are essential in making corporation decisions that involve employees. Both methods stipulate ways in which the organization can deal with dilemmas when faced with any issues that needed be solved with critical decision making. The theories prevent any corporation in chiseling employees, renege on their promises, and treating them as if they were simply instrumentalities of the organization’s interest.
