how other people see and think about still matters to me

Change is what makes us humans, and we tend to change with every step we make in life no matter how rigid or retrogressive we are in nature. Looking back years ago, I can say I am different regarding the social status I previously held. Through development, I was able to acquire knowledge, build critical skills, and also develop diverse character traits. Socialization has been a significant factor in place I am now, which has been influenced mainly by family, school, childcare, peers, media, and especially social media and the community as a whole. I have accepted and learned how to deal with stress, and other things that I know are not in my reach at the moment. I want to have my family soon, and I believe I will be able to offer more support by boosting my child’s self-esteem, catching the right moments, setting limits on discipline, making tome for him/her, and more importantly being a role model. My values include kindness and honest, where I believe that being kind to a person can light up a p[erson who is stressed or gloomy. According to Hitlin, “Children’s career aspirations are influenced, I suggest, by their value structure” (25). Whenever I am honest with myself and others, I feel satisfied, calm, and complete. I am much interested in sports and fashion because my self- image has always been distorted with the feeling of neglect, and whenever I feel that I am drowning in thoughts, I would attend or wear an event outfit that I can feel better about myself. The idea of how other people see and think about still matters to me, but I would never accept it is a bother ever. The preparatory stage, play stage, and game stage were never felt to attainment, and it has most influenced my interest and social well-being.

The structure of my family is what I would call extended because I have lived with an uncle, and majorly I was raised by a grandmother who covered for my mother who was always present. I have no personal relationship with my father after they divorced my mother about twelve years ago. I have never had a chance to feel the warmth and protection that comes from a father. Being raised by my grandfather and at the same time going through the feeling of absence of my bothy parents, I have felt useless or unwanted sometimes, and all I am left with is day-dreaming of what might have been if I had a “normal” life. “Divorce can leave children feeling overwhelmed and emotionally sensitive” (Family means). According to the author, the feeling of divorce varies from one child to another, and I have always approached with a lot of guilts and blames and an increase in anxiety and health problems. Commitment is one factor that fosters a strong family, and that lacked in my home. The busy schedule of my mother did not leave room for interactions and time together. My early memories have always been shadowed by the smile and warmth from my grandmother, WHO HAD TAKEN THE ROLE AS MY PARENT AND AS A FRIEND. Since I can remember, I have always lost interest in social activities because my activity level w3as low and never wanted to participate in anything that will require socialization. I had still held a withdrawal action in knowing people because I never had the privilege of growing up with a sibling. My temperamental nature had led me to be fearful where it was hard for me to adapt to new situations and new things. My mother is a businesswoman, and as long as I can remember, she has always been a busy person who has led to a lack of attachment in my life. The withdrawal and fear that I have limited my movements, which have made it almost impossible to make the unnecessary trip for personal growth or any other business.

My community, back in my hometown in China, would be described as the typical Chinese community where socialization has limits, and culture plays a significant role. My town is densely populated, thus making the attachment less active but the reinforcement, instructions, traditions are some of the socialization method presents. The Chinese culture requires the young to show atmost interest, and the relationship of the parents is based on how well a child performs in school. Moreover during my stay in Australian High School, I was faced with diversity challenges where the language had become a problem. My culture, race, and traditions facilitated primary diversity. The secondary diversity affected me because of my education background and geographical location. The difficulties in expressing myself i9n a foreign country took a negative toll on my grades because the change in how my brain acquired knowledge was impactful. “Children construct their knowledge through a carefully planned curriculum that engages and builds upon the child’s current knowledge, recognizing that knowledge cannot simply be provided for the child” ( BIERMEIER). The change in the learning environment and location became a compelling factor in my abilities to learn. The attitude that existed in China was more strict and authoritative than what I have experienced as an international student in Australia and the U.S. The historical, culture and diversity, and global perspective all played a factor in the difficulties I faced when I decided to study abroad.

The school has always been an escape from the life challenges and feelings of neglect from my mother. In high school, I was a foreign student in Australia in a big school that housed students from various diversity, and I felt that here I would not attract any attention to myself. The high school was a public school; thus, it had a large number of students who each projected different cognitive abilities in learning. Education, to me, was a way to acquire knowledge, life skills, competencies, and an opportunity to work on my socialization. Education in my family was always the determinant of how I was going to be perceived, and I would even be punished for bad grades. However, when I came to Australia, the culture and the curriculum was different, and people here held a liberal view in sensitive matters such as sex education. Teachers are professionals that can significantly impact the brain development of a child, and my high school teacher always encouraged me not to give up in my studies after being scolded by my family. The teacher would even be insulted for the low grades that I got, but he never gave up on me. Teachers are typically left to interpret and deal with stressful situations, especially when it comes to socialization, which may lead to wrong passing of information (Department of Nursing). The parent’s style and guidance are always authoritative, which makes a child develop the fear, which may affect their learning experience.

A religious organization is a fundamental factor that dictates how people associate with each other. Religious denominations in China are very minimal, and the religion as a whole attracts less attention from the community I come from. However, in interacting with other students, I learned that significant faiths such as Christianity or Islam play a substantial role in child development. The popular beliefs dictate how a child’s brain perceives a thing, which is through reinforcement, traditions, instructions, and learning by doing. Variations in human beings affect how religion is spread, but a child’s temperament can play a significant role in determining the activities of the religious organization. Attitude is present in my family about faith that can not be said to be radical or unpresent, but it can be considered normal where it is not a must for someone to be religious. I don’t conform much with religious activities, and my relationship can be defined as semi-active. Mt experiences with religion have led me to think that a child’s temperament is essential forb modeling for the brain development of a child.

The peer group can influence how a person develops either physically or mentally. I have always had a limited number of friends, but the few I had were opposite to what I was entirely because the activity levels were high, their mood was always right. The kind of friends I had, however, were adolescents who had eating disorders, which forced them to eat when they were angry (Mann et al.). I had started to imitate their behaviors due to peer pressure, and I would consume junk, which ended up affecting my health in general. I remember there was a time that I refused to stay out late, and they all gave reasons why I was just a kid who was scared of my grandmother. It was hard for me to provide any feedback on such reasoning.

I have worked in a non-profit organization that was concerned with childcare to reduce the high mortality rate by providing training to caregivers. Choosing a childcare center is essential, especially in the development of achild, and various steps should be applied to achieve this type of care. Child care should be able to provide flexible hours, affordable fees and services, sound policies and communication, proper transportation, a discipline policy, and qualified professionals (Healthychildren). All these factors make sure that the child is put in an environment that they can be able to learn and develop their learning experiences. I have always wanted to stay in a place that I was not judged by the grades that I got but through my character traits.

Media has been the most significant influencer of the current generation, where it has become a place of interaction and communication. There are a limited number of books that explore the idea of socialization and child development. However, I have seen television shows of cartoons such as Mickey and Mouse, which shows knowledgable content to children, which contributes to the development of their brain through adaptability, distractibility, and persistence. These television programs teach about tolerance in terms of race and ethnicity, religion, class, rights and activism, bullying and bias, gender and sexual identity, and immigration. I have enjoyed watching a movie series Shameless which shows how parental irresponsibility and death can affect a child. I have enjoyed watching YouTube videos throughout the course, which have influenced my understanding of socialization and how I can interact with other people.

When I was growing up, there was a rising case of divorce, especially in my hometown, where most children were living with one parent or with a relative. The booming economic environment was forcing parents to abandon or neglect their children for the sake of making more money and improving their careers. I was very much affected by the absence of my aparents, and I developed anger issues due to the feeling that nobody cared. “In the past, we read that children of divorce suffered from depression, failed in school, and got in trouble with the law” (Corcoran). The rising number of divorces are making the development of children to very unstable.

Children have always held a special place in my heart, and I desire to have some of my own in the near future. Children can show their best only if they are subjected to a suitable learning experience. I believe that children should not be judged by the position or the grades they have but their cognitive ability to interpret different challenges. The psychosocial and emotional stability in children should be made a priority. I am very optimistic about my future because I have been able to tackle the fear of socialization. The future requires someone who can be able to stand and fearlessly express his/her views, which I think I have grasped in this course. My future is bright if I continue pressing forward.
