How the use of the internet has impacted human life
My paper addresses the question whether or not the use of the internet has had a positive or negative impact on human life. Personally I think the internet has made modern day life quite easy as the internet has been applied in almost all areas of life in order to increase efficiency and productivity. However, there are people who seem to think that internet use has actually made life more complicated. Such people are pessimistic about embracing the use of computer the web in different spheres of our everyday life.
It is difficult to imagine how our lives would be without the web. The use of the internet is involved in many spheres of our everyday life ranging from communication, traffic control, education, entertainment among others. It is an undeniable fact that World Wide Web makes life easy, efficient and convenient. The internet is definitely one of the mankind’s greatest inventions though some people are of the opinion that it has made life more stressful and complex.
Computers which are connected to the internet are capable of quickly processing huge amounts of data and they complete multiple tasks more easily than human beings. The internet also enables the automation of complex tasks that are considered boring and tedious to human and hence internet has greatly increased our ability to perform various tasks efficiently. The internet has a huge memory capacity and is able to store massive amounts of data in a digital format. It therefore comes as no surprise to find that online databases can store information worth millions of pages in a digital format. It is certainly not possible for a normal human brain to store such huge loads of data. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
The internet has had a great impact on our lifestyles such that we can focus our attention on scientific research rather than wasting time searching for data in conventional libraries. Most of our daily activities would not be possible without the use of the internet. Important infrastructural systems such a satellite communication, banking, and even infotainment would not function without the internet. In the banking sector for instance, internet enables data switching between clients and banks simultaneously and accurately.
In the past learning how to surf the web was not easy especially for young children. However, advances in information technology have made online systems more user-friendly and more powerful. Using the internet to solve problems is no longer a preserve of techno-wizards since even young children nowadays use the web to do their homework.
The internet is an important part of computer technology which allows people to access huge amounts of data from the World Wide Web. This creates opportunities for learning across the internet, access to entertainment materials and other crucial tasks such as internet banking. However, the use of the internet needs to be embraced with caution as there are many negative impacts of internet.
One of the major concerns for skeptics of the internet is that if we rely too much on the net we might get into serious trouble especially due to computer viruses and cyber attacks which cause havoc on computerized systems. Nevertheless, experts have created solutions to such problems and improvements in online technologies have a huge potential to improve our lives in the future.
There are a few negatives about the internet which make some people skeptical about totally embracing the use of the web. For starters, the internet just like any other piece of technology is prone to being used in a negative way by malicious individuals. This involves cyber crime, cyber bullying, stalking among other vices. To guard against this internet users need to be careful about the information that they share with other internet users. At the same time, internet users need to keep themselves updated with the latest firewalls to guard their computers against cyber attacks.
Generally adapting the use of the internet requires a high level of capital in order to purchase the required hardware and software which enable one to access the internet. The use of online platforms carries many inherent risks due to presence of malicious viruses and computer bugs which destroy entire systems leading to loss of important data. Furthermore, there is a constant threat of cyber crime whereby hackers get unauthorized access to computer systems and steal or access private information. However, these threats can be averted by adapting relatively simple security measures so as to bolster security of computer systems.
The introduction of online working in various organizations results in the scaling down of employment since fewer employees are required in order run the operations of an organization. This has resulted in massive job losses in various sectors of the economy. Those at the biggest risk of losing their jobs are employees who lack the basic skills required to access the internet. On the positive side, introduction of online working increases efficiency and productivity which leads to higher profits.
There is no denying that the internet is here to stay and web just like other technological advances have a great potential to increase productivity for the benefit of all mankind.
